A lot of these guys not only caught my eye, but also the dozens of D1 college coaches in attendance. Below are the prospects that stood out.
In the game I saw against the KC Spurs , Braden Hausen Braden Hausen 6’7″ | PF Amarillo | 2024 State #257 Nation TX was magnificent. At 6’7, he handled the ball, controlled the pace offensively, and had some great passes to his teammates. On top of that, he made several 3’s, including the game clinching one in overtime. Hausen also scored in the mid/low post, taking advantage of the mismatches the defense gave him. Braden Hausen Braden Hausen 6’7″ | PF Amarillo | 2024 State #257 Nation TX is known for his ability to shoot the ball, but can impact the game in so many other ways, especially offensively.
Tyran Mason Tyran Mason 6’4″ | SG Plano | 2024 State #279 Nation TX played great against the Iowa Barnstormers. He led his squad in scoring by attacking the rim and finishing through contact. Late in the second half when the game was close, Mason had a monster poster dunk over top a defender. Mason is crafty with the ball, and able to get to his spots because of his elite explosiveness and deep skillset. His stock should definitely rise after this weekend with Max Levels Elite.
Going into the event, Hunter Caldwell was a prospect I wanted to check out. It is safe to say that he lived up to the expectations I had for him. Caldwell showcased his ability to score with his back to the basket over smaller defenders. He has a really soft touch around the rim, and a nice turn around jumper in his bag as well. Caldwell can even step out and shoot it from deep. Defensively, Caldwell does a great job at walling up and forcing the offense to finish over top, which is not an easy task.
The FAU commit Ty Robinson had a big time performance in the Semi Final win over Omaha Elite. He made several big time threes, and finished with a game high 23 points. Robinson is a pure scorer, and can get hot at any moment. He plays the game with extreme passion and intensity, and holds his own on the defensive end. Coaches were raving about his performance yesterday evening. The kid can hoop. FAU got a good one.
Layne Taylor has blown up this Spring/Summer with AAO Flight. He is a super crafty Point Guard who does a great job at creating for himself and his teammates. Taylor can do things with the basketball a lot of players can’t. He is also able to get off some tough shots because of his quick release. He is a tough shot taker, and a tough shot maker. On the defensive end, Taylor is a pest. He forced several steals and irritated Omaha Elite’s guards with his constant ball pressure.
Howard Peoples
Howard Peoples
Howard Peoples had the best game I saw all day on Saturday. He scored at will, finishing with over 30 points. Howard made 8 threes, put in a few mid range jumpers, and used his athleticism to finish at the rim over length. For his size, he is a super quick guard with a ton of explosiveness. His performance generated a lot of hype, as a ton of Mid Major Division I programs were in attendance. I expect his stock to grow a ton after this weekend.
Nikolas Khamenia
Nikolas Khamenia
Nikolas Khamenia has serious game. Already playing up an age group, Khamenia still looked like the best prospect on the floor, and one of the best in the whole 17U division. At 6’8, he plays Point Guard for his BTI ball club. He is a super unique prospect who can score on all three levels of the floor. Khamenia thrives at posting up smaller players, and is patient enough to react to how the defense guards him. In addition, he can generate great looks for his teammates because of the attention he draws. Khamenia already holds several HM offers with several more on the way.
