Farrell commits to the A-10
The No. 10 prospect in our 2024 MD/DC Player Rankings, Tyonne Farrell Tyonne Farrell 6'6" | PF Mount St. Joseph | 2024 State #210 Nation MD , announced his commitment to Rhode Island, which marked as assistant coach Kenny Johnson’s second pledge from a DMV prospect in month’s timespan. Farrell spent the month of July taking advantage of the June scholastic live period weekends averaging over 20 points per game. The 6-foot-6 combo forward brings the necessary physicality, versatility and budding skillset that should result in a productive college career.
Diggs cuts his list
Another top-10 prospect that made the news cycle having to due with his recruitment is Bullis/New World wing Caden Diggs Caden Diggs 6'7" | SF Bullis | 2024 State #125 Nation MD cut his list to six schools consisting of George Washington, Iowa, Old Dominion, Oklahoma State, Richmond and Seton Hall. If I had to make my guess, I’d say that Iowa is the leader in this race. Not only has Diggs already taken an official visit there, but head coach Fran McCaffrey has been a common face courtside whenever Diggs takes the floor. Diggs has not yet came out with an announcement date, so anything is possible, but I like the Hawkeyes’ chances in this one.
Top PG in MD/DC 2024 cuts his list
Another Bullis prospect is narrowing down his list as point guard Tyler Boston Tyler Boston 5'10" | PG Bullis | 2024 State #291 Nation MD will move forward with the following: Fairfield, Fordham, Holy Cross, North Texas, Penn and UNC-Greensboro. Boston was another DMV prospect who shined throughout the month of June with his ability to control the game from the point guard position. Not only does he offer top-notch ball security, he’s a scoring threat from three levels, can make split-second reads and defends with pride.
The transfer portal continues
Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen programs from around the country act as vultures on DMV talent. In just the last 2-3 weeks, three of the area’s highly-touted prospects will spend their high school seasons elsewhere. 2024 Daquan Davis Daquan Davis 6'1" | PG Overtime Elite (GA) | 2024 #119 Nation GA will attend Overtime Elite just a few months after helping St. John’s (DC) to the WCAC title. Davis, a Providence commit, will keep his college eligibility while attending Overtime Elite, despite some speculation.
One of the top 2026 prospects in the DMV, Adam Oumiddoch Adam Oumiddoch 6'4" | SG Bishop O'Connell | 2026 VA , will join Davis in Atlanta to attend Overtime Elite. The 6-foot-5 rising sophomore has built a reputation as being one of the most skilled, fluid scorers you’ll find in his class. With all that Overtime Elite has to offer from an off the court perspective, it should assist with Oumiddoch reaching his full potential on the high school scene.
2024 combo guard Martin Somerville will head west and attend Southern California Academy. The 6-foot-2 southpaw is a sniper from deep who has continued to round out his overall game off the dribble as a primary playmaker. Bishop McNamara was primed to make a strong run in the WCAC with Somerville leading the way. With his departure, they still offer plenty of talented underclassmen who will keep them a threat, but make no mistake, taking Somerville out of the equation is a huge hit.
