SubscribeWith some size down low and some wing size as well and a few tough lead guards mixed in with some shooters this team took out some big time programs. They gelled well towards the end of the season and they share the basketball. Instead of their players forcing tough shots they opted to attack, draw two and kick to open players. It was high quality basketball to watch to say the least.
Jakai Black is a smooth left CG that has that combo versatility as he can shoot and attack so defenders can’t sit on just one. He is lefty which for some reason has always been hard to guard but that stoop and go and change of pace really keeps defenders off balance. His finishing ability really took shape and his footwork and different ways he could finish really showcased his bag.
Brian Haywood was very impressive as he displayed his mature game and they way that he can effect the game in a variety of different ways.
1.The way he can scan the floor and find open players or even just freeze the defense and make elite passes that lead to good looks and scoring opportunities. The skill to keep his vision up at all times is a mature aspect of his game.
2.Haywood is an elite creator, whether we refer to his ability to create for himself or other is the small picture because he does both well and when his team needs him to create he finds ways to impact the game that way. He has patience near the rim and his footwork is outstanding. He will pick you apart in the zone.
3.Shotmaking ability is important because you cannot sag off of him and play the gaps because he has a smooth jumper. He will turn into an elite three-level scorer here soon.
Overall his ability to finish at the te rim absorbing contact or creating it and finishing was impressive.
Pierce Paul aside from his iconic name this kid can let it fly as he could turn into a fast break three-ball machine, but that streaky nature of his game makes him dangerous and a great weapon to have on the team. His positional size is starting to separate him from other players and he has a big time potential.
Demetrius “DJ” Hunter has that explosiveness that can put a defender on skates. His lateral movement is special and he is a name that you need to know because he is going to really make some noise here shortly.
Cruz Kazmierski can get through the defense like butter as he has a great jab game and set up game as he uses different levels on his attacks. His balance and finishing skills have some major maturity. With a little bit of size he is a positional matchup problem.
These are just a few of the players on this Austin Select team that has depth and ability to make some big time noise once the season gets underway again in the Fall.
