After breaking down some top performers, it’s time to look at some intriguing talent from all across the state that are being primed to raise their stock on the court this upcoming season. Without any further ado, here’s my list of some impressive 2024 point guards in Kentucky to watch for.
Highlights
At the top of my list of standouts is Eli Johnson Eli Johnson 6'1" | PG Pikeville | 2024 State KY , a 6-foot-1 point guard at Pikeville High School. Johnson was one of the most efficient talents on the Panthers’ roster during his junior stint of high school basketball last year. In 30 contests, Johnson was the third-best scorer and fourth-best rebounder on the team, collecting a grand total of 317 points and 96 rebounds, averaging 10.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. The rising senior out of Pikeville, KY. additionally shot 45.7% (118-258) from field goal range, 32.0% (32-100) from three-point range and 72.1% (49-68) from the free throw line. In addition to excellent size, speed and versatility, what stands out about Johnson is his strong ball control, smart passing and effort on the boards.
Claiming a second place finish on my list is Andrew Reis Andrew Reis 6'5" | SF St Henry | 2024 State KY , a 6-foot-4 point guard at St. Henry High School. Reis was a huge difference maker on both sides of the court during his junior season of high school basketball with the Crusaders last year. In 18 games, Reis made the most of his minutes, collecting a total of 57 points and 15 rebounds, averaging 3.2 points and 0.8 rebounds per game. The rising senior out of Erlanger, KY. additionally shot 44.2% (19-43) from the field, 52.2% (12-23) from beyond the arc and 63.6% (7-11) from the free throw line. What stands out about Reis is his size, speed, strong ball control and pin-point accurate shooting from range.

At number three on my list is Carter McClanahan Carter McClanahan 6'0" | PG Mason County | 2024 State KY , a 5-foot-10 point guard at Mason County High School. McClanahan was a highly explosive weapon on the Royals’ roster during his junior season of high school basketball last year. In 35 contests, McClanahan was one of the more efficient scorers and rebounders on the team, collecting a total of 207 points and 44 rebounds, averaging 5.9 points and 1.3 rebounds per game. The rising senior out of Maysville, KY. additionally shot 39.0% (69-177) from the field, 32.8% (40-122) from beyond the arc and 78.4% (29-37) from the free throw line. In addition to outstanding size, speed and athleticism, what stands out about McClanahan is his ability to contribute accurate shooting from the top of the key and in the paint.
Finishing in the number four spot on my list of standouts is Mike Loftis Mike Loftis 5'10" | PG Holy Cross (Louisville) | 2024 State KY , a 5-foot-11 point guard at Holy Cross (Louisville) High School. Loftis made a huge impact on both sides of the floor during his junior stint of high school basketball with the Cougars last year. In 30 games, Loftis was the second-best scoring weapon and one of the stronger rebounders on the team, picking up a total of 478 points and 78 rebounds, averaging 15.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. The rising senior out of Louisville, KY. additionally shot 52.6% (170-323) from the field, 42.0% (60-143) from three-point range and 84.8% (78-92) from the free throw line. What stands out about Loftis is his size, speed and ability to consistently sink floaters, and contribute underneath the basket by grabbing rebounds.

Coming in at number five on my list of standouts is Colton Feagan Colton Feagan 6'1" | PG Williamstown Independent | 2024 State KY , a 6-foot-1 point guard at Williamstown Independent High School. Feagan was one of the most explosive weapons on the Demons’ roster during his junior stint of high school basketball last year. In 30 contests, Feagan was the top scoring machine and the third-best rebounder on the team, recording a total of 578 points and 155 rebounds, averaging 19.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. The rising senior out of Williamstown, KY. additionally shot 48.1% (213-443) from field goal range, 40.3% (50-124) from the three-point line and 82.3% (102-124) from the free throw line. In addition to solid size, speed and footwork, what stands out about Feagan is his overall game knowledge and his ability to carry a team on his back offensively. He also hauled in a mountain of second-chance opportunities.
