SubscribeThe Hoopers Only Hooplife event is taking place in Phoenix Arizona, July 28th- 30th. We take a look at some opening night standouts.

Day is a talented young prospects that impressed with a ton of skills. He was one of the tallest players on the court but it was his play away from the basket that caught my eye. The long forward sprints the floor like a deer and showed terrific hands catching the ball while on the move. He even managed to show off his shooting stroke, knocking down a three in the game I saw.

Mornin was one of the better shooters I saw on the day. The wing was a sniper. He showed a combination of a quick release, and good fundamentals while knocking down several threes in catch and shoot situations.

Nothing better than watching a great defensive player, RSR was dominant. The PG had a million steals as the head of the press converting them into easy baskets for his team. His lockdown ability wasn’t limited to just the press either. The PG jumped passing lanes and caused overall havoc to opposing ballhandlers. He was the best defensive player I saw on the day.

Despite the loss, I was impressed with Gutierrez’s play. He is a willing rim runner, turning his hips and sprinting the floor at every opportunity. The lefty was the best rebounder I saw on the day, cleaning the glass at a high rate. His ability to rebound also opened up other parts of his game including his grab and go ability as several times the big man could be seen leading the break for his Renegade squad.

AHL was a beast. The big man displayed nimble feet and a unique skill set. The faceup forward was able to attack the rim, play off two and finish around the basket at a very high rate. Loya is one of those players that doesn’t seem to be going that fast, but always seems to be moving faster than the person defending him. In addition to his around the rim finishing ability he showed perhaps the best fundamentals of anyone on the day.
