After an exciting season of high school basketball action in the Volunteer State, it's time to look back at some of the most talented standouts on the court from last year. After my last positional breakdown of some talented rising seniors in the point guard position, it's time to move onto a new position and a new group of intriguing standouts. Without any further ado, here's my list of some highly explosive 2024 shooting guards in Tennessee to watch out for this upcoming season.

At the top of my list of notable performers is [player_tooltip player_id='1404415' first='Joshua' last='Thompson'], a 6-foot-4 shooting guard at Douglass High School. Thompson was one of the most efficient weapons on the Red Devils' roster during his junior stint of high school basketball last year. What stands out about Thompson is his size, speed and explosive scoring ability, showcasing his ability to quickly overwhelm the opposition. After an outstanding season with the Red Devils last year, Thompson is certainly worth keeping an eye on this upcoming season.

I am also impressed with [player_tooltip player_id='1798576' first='Brian' last='Carter Jr.'], a 6-foot-5 shooting guard at Ridgeway High School. Carter was a highly explosive standout for the Roadrunners during his junior season of high school basketball last year. In addition to excellent size, speed and toughness, I like Carter's overall athleticism as he can quickly maneuver the floor and consistently feed his teammates with open looks. Another aspect of his game that stands out his scoring capabilities from beyond the arc and in the paint. Carter should be interesting to watch next season.

Claiming a third place finish on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='1215120' first='Murray' last='Norman'], a 6-foot-3 shooting guard at Munford High School. Norman made his presence known on both sides of the floor for the Cougars during his junior season last year. Norman's impact was thanks to his well-rounded playstyle and ability to add to the board from around the perimeter and down low. I also liked Norman's rebounding effort, using his height and solid wingspan to make a difference underneath the rim. Norman will be a high-level shooting guard to watch this upcoming season.

Another intriguing standout from the state is [player_tooltip player_id='1385936' first='Jerrod' last='Mackey'], a 6-foot-4 shooting guard at Hillcrest High School. Mackey made a considerable difference on the court for the Vikings during his junior season of high school basketball last year. Mackey stood out because of his versatile playstyle, footwork and explosiveness in transition. Mackey additionally caught my eye with his ability to stun and overwhelm defenders when driving to the rim. After showcasing his wide array of skills on the court last season, Mackey should be a high-level shooting guard to watch for during his senior campaign.

Coming in at number five on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='1570600' first='Chase' last='Runyon'], a 6-foot-3 shooting guard at Portland High School. Runyon was a significant weapon on the court for the Panthers during his junior stint of high school basketball last year. On top of size, speed and athleticism on both sides, what stands out about Runyon is his ability to blast past the opposition in the paint and beat defenders with his jumpshot from range. After showing off his scoring capabilities last season, Runyon should be even more dangerous next season.
