Here’s the new top 10:
Tyler Tanner, Julius Thedford, Jahvin Carter, and Emerson Tenner Jr. are the four best players in the class. It’s not up for debate and how could anyone debate who should replace one of the four.
Tanner has a quick, first-step and is a much-improved jump shooter. The Vanderbilt commit sees the floor well and makes the right reads. Thedford should be considered the best mid-range shooter in the class. He’s coming off an AAU season with Mokan Elite 17U shooting over 55 percent from the field during the week of Peach Jam. Carter isn’t quite as athletic as Thedford nor does he have the burst that Tanner has, but the Penn State has a smooth offensive game. He can’t be rushed or rattled. Carter can score at all three levels.
As for Tenner, he does everything a point guard needs to do. During the summer with Hoop City Elite 3SSB, the Cordova High product displayed offensive balance. Yes, he can pass and score. No surprise over here. Tenner sits down on defense and communicates well with his teammates. Because of all those things, Tenner’s recruitment has picked up and has become a top priority for his suitors.
Bartlett’s Christian Alston moves up to No. 5. The 6-foot-5 wing is a solid catch-and-shoot guy in this class. Alston has great lift on his jump shot. He also does a great job of finishing at the rim and scoring at an efficient rate.
Daniel Cochran, Joshua Heard, Taj Kimber, and Denaj Kimber round out the bottom half of the top 10. The Kimber brothers had a solid summer for Team Thad EYCL team. Both are primed to have successful senior campaigns and have Fulton in position to repeat as TSSAA Division 1 Class 3A state champs.
Briarcrest’s Cooper Haynes made his way back in at No. 10. Haynes is still the best shooter in this class. He’s also showing some strides logging in minutes at point guard since Jaye Nash made his exit to Oak Hill Academy. This upcoming season could be an opportunity for Haynes to show he can play big minutes as the Saints’ floor general.
