The annual DMV Live at DeMatha, Virginia Live Period Shootout (VISAA) and Alexandria City and the first ever VA Live by the VHSL will take place at Saint James, all within a 30 mile radius of each other.
We will take the next week or so breaking down the many prospects for coaches to take a look at in these events, and there’s a TON of them.
Here’s a look at part five of the prospects at the VHSL Live Period we expect to make noise at the event.
Sean Donovan Sean Donovan 6'7" | C W.T. Woodson | 2024 State VA | 6’7” PF | WT Woodson ’24
Donovan had a great year last year and is having a good summer with the Nova Cavs, as he showed he’s one of the best post scorers and has good touch out to the perimeter as well. He seals well and has good hands and feet in the post, he can score it over the shoulder and has good counters, he moves well off the ball to get open in the paint and he is good as a screener as he can roll and pop as well.
Owen Spurlock Owen Spurlock 6'5" | PF WT Woodson | 2024 State VA | 6’5” F | WT Woodson ’24
Spurlock is another underrated player for this talented Woodson team, and he has a great frame with long arms and a good skillset to go along with it. His length and strength allows him to play and guard multiple positions on the perimeter and in the paint, he moves well without the ball to get open and is a threat to make shots from deep and he can face up and get downhill off the bounce too.
Theo Burke Theo Burke 5'10" | CG WT Woodson | 2025 State VA | 6’1” CG | WT Woodson ’25
Burke is emerging as one of the top lead guards in the Nova area, and he will be the guy that gets them into their sets and makes everyone on his team better. He is skilled as a ball handler that can handle pressure and can create for himself and others, he is crafty as a finisher and can create space and knock down shots from multiple levels and he is a tough nosed defender who sets the tone on that end of the floor.
Elijah Washington Elijah Washington 6'7" | PF Lake Taylor | 2024 State VA | 6’7” PF | Lake Taylor ’24
Washington is a big time football player that holds multiple division one offers, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a division one basketball prospect as well. He’s a natural athlete at 6’7” with very long arms and he thrives defensively with his ability to guard multiple positions and his timing as a rim protector, he runs the floor and he’s a big time finisher at and above the rim and he has good touch on the perimeter too.
Rodney Baines Rodney Baines 6'8" | PF Lake Taylor | 2024 State VA | 6’8” C | Lake Taylor ’24
Baines is starting to see his stock rise with a recent offer from Norfolk State, as he’s grown about 3 inches over the past few years and is starting to grow into his body as an athlete and with his coordination and timing. He’s a strong post player who can seal and has good hands and touch in the paint, he’s a workhorse on the glass on both ends of the floor and he’s improving his perimeter skillset to make him more of a mismatch as well.
Aaron Elliot | 6’1” PG | Lake Taylor ’25
Elliot is a very talented young guard for this Lake Taylor team that has shown a lot of potential and gradually improved over the past few years. He’s a quick guard with a great first step and he has a great handle with good shift off the bounce, he’s explosive and dynamic enough to rise up and finish or create space off the bounce and he is a good defender who can guard the length of the floor too.
Andrew Maria Andrew Maria 6'5" | SG Yorktown | 2025 State VA | 6’2” WG | Yorktown ’25
Maria had a great sophomore season for Yorktown and will be one of the better guards in the Nova area over the next few years for the simple fact that he knows how to play and plays the right way. He’s a heady defender who jumps passing lanes and contests shots well, he can handle in transition and drive in straight lines where he can finish with both hands and has a good middle game and he can drill it from deep when he’s left open.
