By now you know that we have a new No. 1 ranked prospect in combo guard Ahmad Nowell Ahmad Nowell 6'0" | PG Imhotep Charter | 2024 State #36 Nation PA and that right behind Nowell at No. 2 is shooting guard Jalil Bethea Jalil Bethea 6'4" | SG Archbishop Wood | 2024 State #5 Nation PA .
Now we want to dig deeper into the Pennsylvania Class of 2024 rankings and review five players who used the 2022-23 high school season as well as the spring live period to increase their recruiting stock significantly.
Below are five southeastern Pennsylvania 2024 stock risers you need to keep an eye on for the remainder of this summer and beyond.
76 to 9… Darren Williams Darren Williams 6'4" | SG Archbishop Ryan | 2024 State PA – 6’4” / Archbishop Ryan / K-Low Elite / Combo Guard: After a tremendous regular season (16 ppg.; 4.5 rpg.; 2.6 apg.; 36% from three), Williams was a 1st Team All-PCL selection. Then in the 5A state tourney, Williams took his game to another level as he pushed AR to the semifinals. Included in that stellar stretch was a 28 points (7 threes) performance by Williams in a quarterfinal win over previously undefeated Radnor. Williams has been a lethal perimeter shooter for some time, but in the last nine months he has displayed improved athleticism and a more developed scoring off the dribble skill set. Those items catapulted Williams (FGCU commit) inside the Top 10 of our rankings.
33 to 16… Aasim Burton Aasim Burton 6'3" | CG Cardinal O'Hara | 2024 State PA – 6’2” / Cardinal O’Hara / East Coast Power / Combo Guard: In 2022-23 Burton posted a solid high school season (13 ppg. & 5 apg.) as the second option for O’Hara. However, once he hit the spring grassroots circuit, Burton simply exploded. His end-to-end speed, athleticism and transition scoring enabled Burton to dominate the up-tempo circuit games. In the half-court Burton (a.k.a. “Flash”) can drain threes, operate in pick-n-roll action and direct team sets. Last weekend, Burton continued his attention-grabbing level of play at Philly HS Live. He holds a handful of offers, including ones from Drexel, Rider and UTEP.
98 to 20… Greg Guidinger Greg Guidinger 6'6" | SF Central York | 2024 State PA – 6’6” / Central York / Philly Pride UAA / Wing: Guidinger missed the early portion of the 2022-23 season with an injury, but once he was able to get on the court, he played like a man possessed. Operating as a stretch-4 style player, Guidinger drained threes, scored off the bounce and via quick post ups. He is a high IQ prospect who knows how to get to his spots. This past season Guidinger averaged 16.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. He was a 2nd Team 6A All-State selection andled Central York to the YAIAA tournament title. Guidinger holds several DI offers.
248 to 33…Nasseem Wright – 6’6” / Match, Civics & Sciences / BW Elite / Small Forward: This slashing wing scorer is another prospect who rocketed up our latest rankings after an excellent high school season followed by a monster spring circuit. In only his second season playing high school hoops, Wright averaged 14.3 points, 6 rebounds and nearly 2 blocks per game. He was a 1st Team All-PPL as well as 3rd Team 3A All-State selection. Wright is an athletically gifted and high energy wing who can score at all three levels. He handles the ball well and his dribble pull-up skills are especially impressive.
111 to 56… Larenzo Jerkins Larenzo Jerkins 6'5" | PF Neumann-Goretti | 2024 State PA – 6’5” / Neumann-Goretti / BW Elite / Wing: The extraordinary rise of Jerkins in our latest rankings should not come as a surprise. After sitting out the 2022-23 season because of a PIAA transfer ruling, Jerkins simply destroyed the competition on the spring circuit. Jerkins (1st Team All-HGSL) can play in transition as a scoring wing or downhill ball handler. His aggressive style is difficult to stop in the half-court too. Jerkins relentlessly attacks the rim off the dribble and as an offensive rebounder. In both cases he can finish with authority. At the defensive end, his endless motor and long wingspan are disruptive factors.
