Both Antonio Minoz and Marquis Clark Marquis Clark 6'2" | PG Whitney Young | 2026 State IL , two of the top prospects in their classes, had nice showings against Yorkville. Munoz really flashed an ability to attack the rim early on and converted an and-one opportunity to begin the game. He then got up for a baseline-driving dunk shortly after. As the game went on, Munoz continued to attack and convert at the rim, while also extending his range for some midrange and three-pointers. Meanwhile, Marquis Clark Marquis Clark 6'2" | PG Whitney Young | 2026 State IL knocked down shots all over the floor and displayed a smooth touch around the rim. He wasn’t afraid to draw contact and converted from the line on multiple instances too. Clark scored 13 and Munoz scored 14 in a loss to Yorkville.
Yorkville Shines Bright Against Young
I didn’t expect Yorkville to put on a show like they did against Whitney Young. The first name that come to mind for Yorkville is of course Jason Jakstys Jason Jakstys 6'10" | C Yorkville | 2024 State #141 Nation IL . He had a big first half and was lethal on the boards and around the rim. Jakstys threw down a pair of dunks in the opening half and even stretched the floor for a three at the top of the key. He scored 20 points and buried two 3’s in the game. But there’s another prospect on the Foxes that had a big oerformance. That’s 2024 prospect Bryce Salek Bryce Salek 6'5" | SF Yorkville | 2024 State IL . The 6’4” Wing/has blazing speed up the floor and had a chase down block and two tough drives to the hoop early on. After that, he utilized his shooting abilities and hit a three to give Yorkville a lead midway through the first half. What impresses me most to go along with that is his athleticism. He surprisingly threw down an alley-oop from Jaskys midway through the second half to keep Yorkville ahead in this game. He scored 13 points to help Yorkville upset Whitney Young 52-41.
Another Big Game for Angelo Ciaravino Angelo Ciaravino 6'6" | SF Mt. Carmel | 2024 State #160 Nation IL
Angelo Ciaravino Angelo Ciaravino 6'6" | SF Mt. Carmel | 2024 State #160 Nation IL gave Mt. Carmel a 20-5 start against Rolling Meadows. He knocked down a pair of three’s early and went coast-to-coast down the lane for another score. He displayed an excellent shooting stroke and showed off nice footwork inside and around the perimeter too. He continued to make it rain with defenders in his face and went 4-4 from deep in the first half. Ciaravino scored 14 that half himself with Rolling Meadows only scoring 14 as a team. As the game went on, Ciaravino made more plays defensively. He positions himself well as an on-ball defender while also forcing numerous tough shots. Later in the second half, he was getting rough on the boards and forcing jump balls. Ciaravino threw down a one-handed slam to cap off an excellent two-way showing and a win over Rolling Meadows.
Amir Danforth Amir Danforth 6'1" | SG Rockford Auburn | 2026 State IL Excels on Both Ends vs Marian
There isn’t a player I’ve seen with better man-to-man defense than Amir Danforth Amir Danforth 6'1" | SG Rockford Auburn | 2026 State IL . The 6’0” Guard is extremely versatile with a great bounce. He really gets into your face defensively with almost nobody getting past him early on. Offensively, he’s your prototypical floor general. He got his teammates involved at a high rate while also hitting a three and scoring inside in the opening minutes. Danforth made a nice play to end the first half as he blew by two defenders down the lane and scored a smooth layup. He showed off his midrange game early in the second half with a pull-up jumper, while also sharing the rock consistently and preventing buckets on defense. A 3-pointer from the top of the key cut the lead to just three after trailing almost the whole game. Down two, Danforth hit two three throws to tie the game with a minute left. Shortly after, he broke past a defender for a layup to secure the game. As of now, there isn’t a 2026 player with better on-ball defense than Amir Danforth Amir Danforth 6'1" | SG Rockford Auburn | 2026 State IL .
Zackary Sharkey 2025 to Watch
This was the first time I watched Marian Catholic’s Zack Sharkey up close. The 6’2” Combo guard showed off a tremendous midrange consistency and the ability to score through contact. He hit his first shot from deep and followed it up with a turnaround jumper near the free throw line. After hitting a free throw, Sharkey hit another baseline fadeaway to extend Marian Catholic’s lead to double digits in the first half. As the game went on, he began making more plays for his teammates while also crashing the boards. When Auburn pulled close, Sharkey converted a big driving layup and fadeaway jumper to extend the lead to 7. Although they wouldn’t hold the lead, I’m excited to see how Sharkey continues to grow his game.
Josiah Calvin Josiah Calvin 5'10" | PG St. Viator | 2025 IL Returns to St. Viator
Josiah Calvin Josiah Calvin 5'10" | PG St. Viator | 2025 IL came off the bench for the Lions against Maine South. Trailing early, he was an immediate difference-maker once he stepped on the floor. He showed off excellent ball-handling abilities by crossing over an opponent twice for two scores down the lane. Towards the end of the half, he made a kid fall and drove down the lane for an and-one with his left hand. He was great defensively in the second half as he moved his feet well and cut off driving lanes. He continued to show a tremendous burst down the lane too.
