Chapman Basketball Academy 2026 is loaded with potential. The group features multiple varsity-ready athletes and players who have made impressive impacts so far this spring. The group has proved to be well-balanced, scoring inside and out while matching their offensive energy to the defensive end. With an exciting combination of chemistry and skill, this team should win some key matchups this summer and display impressive performances against other top programs. Below is the “all you need to know” about this 2026 squad and what to expect from them this summer.

What are your thoughts on how your team has competed thus far in circuit season? How have you prepared?

As the head coach of the 2026 Chapman Blue AAU Boys Basketball team, I can attest to the moderate challenges we've faced this season. Our performance has been respectable, with victories in half of our games. While there were obstacles and competitive match-ups, they were all integral parts of our growth as a team. Our approach to this season has been built on a solid foundation of rigorous preparation, practicing twice a week to ensure we're always game-ready. By refining individual skills and honing our collective gameplay, we have been able to develop a group of players who are not just teammates, but a unified force on the court. This season has certainly tested our mettle, but with every game, we learn, we adapt, and we emerge stronger. As we look forward, we embrace the challenge of further improving our performance and making the second half of the season even more successful.

Which Prep Hoops event are you looking forward to most and why?

Looking ahead, the Chapman Blue AAU Boys Basketball team is eagerly anticipating the Last Dance tournament in Chicago on July 6th. This tournament represents an exciting opportunity for us to display the skills we've honed over the season and to prove ourselves against some of the finest teams in the nation. Our weekly practice regimen has prepared us well for this moment, and we're all set to give our best on the court. We see the Last Dance tournament as more than just a competition, it's a platform where every dribble echoes our determination, every shot demonstrates our perseverance, and every defense mirrors our resilience.

What are your team strengths and areas that could use improvements?

Our Chapman Blue AAU Boys Basketball team is a well-rounded group of young athletes, with several key strengths that set us apart. One of our primary assets is our shooting prowess. We possess some exceptional shooters who have been consistently impressive throughout the season, making high-percentage shots both from the paint and beyond the arc. Additionally, our aptitude for breaking the press with ease has been vital to our offensive strategy, allowing us to swiftly convert defense into offense and control the tempo of the game.

That being said, like any team, we have areas where we can improve. One of these is offensive rebounding. While we've been able to hold our own on the boards, we can certainly capitalize on second-chance opportunities more frequently, turning missed shots into points.

Another aspect we are working to enhance is reducing our transition turnovers. While our ability to break the press is strong, sometimes, the quick change of pace can lead to miscommunications or rushed decisions. We're focusing on improving our decision-making in these fast-break situations to ensure more successful transitions from defense to offense.

Roster/Player Breakdown

[player_tooltip player_id='1561877' first='Tyler' last='Michalski']: With his exceptional leadership and deep understanding of the game, Tyler effectively marshals our team on the court, making him a trusted point of reference for his teammates.

Torell Terry: Torell's formidable defensive abilities are a cornerstone of our team's resilience, with his knack for steals and blocks often swinging the momentum in our favor.

Cooper Markee: Cooper's ability to break down defenses with his adept ball handling and quick decision-making keeps our offense fluid and unpredictable, making him an integral part of our attack.

Riley Beyer: A sharpshooter with an uncanny ability to find the bottom of the net from anywhere on the court, Riley's scoring prowess adds a constant threat to our offensive arsenal.

TJ Carter: TJ's agility and athleticism make him a versatile asset, capable of contributing significantly at both ends of the court, making him a crucial player in our lineup.

[player_tooltip player_id='1561957' first='Cole' last='Walby']: Cole consistently drains baskets from all areas of the court, his accuracy and range in shooting not only provide a reliable scoring option for our team but also stretch the opponent's defense, creating opportunities for his teammate

[player_tooltip player_id='1561918' first='Dominic' last='Musolf']: Dominic's stellar passing and vision enable him to create scoring opportunities for his teammates, making him a pivotal playmaker in our offense.

Matthew Heard: Matthew's rebounding skills and ability to protect the rim provide us with a solid defensive anchor, contributing greatly to our team's overall defensive performance.

Carter Zahn: Carter Zahn has brought an infectious energy and grit to our squad, his hustle and hard-nosed defense inspire us and often swing the game's momentum.

[player_tooltip player_id='1561903' first='Carter' last='Theis']: [player_tooltip player_id='1561903' first='Carter' last='Theis'] has shown his ability to adapt quickly and contribute valuable minutes on the court, his effort on both ends has added a new dynamic to our team play.

Each of these players brings a unique set of skills to our team, and their combined efforts create a formidable force on the court.

How does your roster stack up against last season's roster? Any major changes?

This year, we have had the privilege of maintaining almost the entire Chapman Blue AAU Boys Basketball roster from the previous season. This continuity has allowed us to build upon the established chemistry and understanding among our players. It's a group that has shared both victories and defeats, and this shared experience has helped us develop a more nuanced understanding of each other's playing styles, resulting in a more cohesive unit on the court.

In addition to our returning players, we have welcomed two new athletes to our team. Their arrival has not only increased the depth of our squad but also injected a new wave of energy and grit. They have demonstrated incredible resilience and a never-back-down attitude, which has inspired and uplifted the entire team. Their willingness to dive for loose balls, contest every shot, and sacrifice for the team embodies the grit we want to represent as a team. Their inclusion has undoubtedly brought a new dynamic to our play, enhancing our overall performance.

What facet of the game do you want to improve on most going into next season?

One aspect of our game that we are keenly focused on improving is the identification and exploitation of overly aggressive defense by our opponents. We recognize that many teams tend to apply high-pressure defense in an attempt to force turnovers or disrupt our offensive rhythm. However, this aggressive style of play can often create vulnerabilities that we can exploit for our gain.

Our objective is to better train our players to quickly identify these situations and respond strategically. This includes recognizing double teams and overplays, making swift and smart passes to find open teammates, and utilizing backdoor cuts and pick-and-roll plays to exploit open spaces. Essentially, we aim to turn an opponent's aggressive defense into our offensive advantage.

Additionally, we are working to improve our offensive spacing and movement. This not only aids in dealing with aggressive defenses but also in creating more scoring opportunities. By improving our players' understanding of when and where to move on the court, we can better manipulate the defense and create open shots.

This strategic improvement is not an overnight task, but with our regular practices and game simulations, we are confident in our ability to make significant progress in this area

Who are your best returning players? Who are your best additions, if any?

Our returning players on the Chapman Blue AAU Boys Basketball team have shown remarkable growth this season. They've honed their skills, built on last year's experience, and developed into key contributors to the team. Their familiarity with each other's playing styles has deepened, creating a stronger, more cohesive unit on the court. The returning players' commitment to improving, both individually and as a team, has been nothing short of inspiring. They've shown leadership, resilience, and determination, setting high standards for the entire squad.

This year, we also welcomed two new additions to our roster, TJ Carter and Torell Terry. Their integration into the team has added new dynamics to our game. They've brought a fresh wave of energy and grit, which has not only strengthened our performance but also has boosted the team's morale and drive. Despite being new to the team, they've shown great potential and dedication, quickly adapting to our team's ethos and gameplay.

The blend of seasoned players and new talent has brought a balance of experience and novelty to our team. As we continue our journey this season, we're excited to see how this mix will further elevate our performance and lead to even more memorable moments on the court.
