Continue ReadingTeam camps have been the theme for this month as all the high school players play with their respective teams. From incoming freshmen to four year lettermen, schools have been traveling to various parts of the Boot to show their skills on the hardwood. In this Prep Hoops exclusive, we will highlight players who have been playing well in the various team camps around the state.
Collossians Mason-Jones (BTW-S’port | 2024)
The 5’10” guard from BTW has lit up all defenses that he has faced this summer. During the Neville team camp and at Airline, Jones showed that he is one of the best catch-and-shoot guards in the state. Also at Neville, he displayed that he can run the point as well. Jones is a guard who can become unconscious from outside which opens up things for his teammates. He might be short in stature, but he is a threat from anywhere.
Trevon Jackson Trevon Jackson 6'0" | PG Airline | 2024 State LA (Airline | 2024)
Jackson will have the primary ballhandling duties for Airline once his football season is over. During the summer, he has given a preview of what that will look like. He is very quick with the ball and finds angles to get to the rim. Jackson is also adept at shooting the ball from the perimeter. He is better from three but can bury the mid-range. His ball skills and toughness should be an asset for the Vikings this season.
Caleb Evans Caleb Evans 5'10" | PG Parkway | 2026 State LA (Parkway | 2026)
Evans has proven to be one of the better point guards in the northern part of the state. His ability to drive has opened some eyes this summer. Evans uses a low crossover dribble to get to areas he wants to get to whether they are in the paint or just on the offensive side of the floor. He is also very accurate from three which makes him a big time threat. Look for him to be a leader for Parkway this coming season.
Cage Van Norman Cage Van Norman 6'1" | CG Loyola College Prep | 2025 State LA (Loyola | 2025)
Cage is a guard/wing that excels in putting pressure on defenses. When he has the ball in his hands, he is looking to attack the defense in the best way he can. While he will settle at times for the 3, he is very good at attacking the paint and finding his teammates. Cage is one of the best high IQ players in the northern part of Louisiana. He is a potential double-double kid on a nightly basis.
Rondae Hill (Calvary Baptist | 2024)
Hill keeps improving as his team plays more and more this summer. He has really improved his jumper from three and is now hard to leave open from deep. Hill is also one of the quickest guards the state has and can drive by anyone. His vision is also improved and he sees the floor better. This should help his assist totals and make him one of the best point guards in the state.
Look for these players and others as June comes to a close. They have been impressive during play with their schools this month.
