Shoutout to the Horace Hawks for going 7-0 today. The varsity won 4 and JV rolled with 3 W’s. I am guessing this is exactly how new head coach Kyle Cummings wanted things to start for the Hawks!
The Dragon Summer Shootout had Minnesota and North Dakota teams in attendance.
Zach Bredman (2024) |5’11 PG| Barnesville
I knew that I liked his game as soon as I saw Bredman’s inside-out crossover. He froze the D and left them in the dust. Zach also threw lefty 1-handed passes off the dribble. This PG is skilled! Bredman stuck out to me as a shooter as well. The lead guard scored many ways including a deep triple off a fade screen, with a smooth pull-up J, and with a dirty step-back move. Bredman lets it fly with a high and soft release. I also saw him score multiple points in transition. Zach is not all flash & flair. He made things happen with quick hands, many hustle plays, getting after O-boards, and with old-fashioned hard work. Coach Askegaard has a special player with Mr. Bredman.
Brady Nosal (2025) |5’11 G| Barnesville
This Trojan is a SNIPER! Brady has an easy/effortless shot and he can drain them from well beyond the college arc. He steps into the shot with subtly and smoothness. When defenders lost Nosal or gave him space, the ball went through the bottom of the net. Keep track of this shooter from Bville!
Mike Siffoi Mike Siffoi 5'8" | PG Horace | 2024 State ND (2024) |5’9 G| Horace
When I was watching, Siffoi scored all of his points in transition or by slashing downhill. Mike is strong and aggressive. On multiple occasions, Siffoi sliced through the D, drew contact, and got to the line. True scorers get to the line often, if Mike can continue to produce for the line, he will be a quality asset for the Hawks.
Isaiah Williams Isaiah Williams 5'10" | PG Lutheran | 2024 CO (2024) |5’11 G| Horace
He was one of the quicker players on the courts this morning. Zay has a noteworthy first step. He impressed me when catching, ripping, and beating his man with a straight-line drive. He showed a sweet funner/floater and he produced buckets in transition. Williams showed off his coordination, body control, and concentration with a tough score in transition with a defender in his face. Williams is a nice athlete, a skilled backcourt player, and he has the potential to be a quality guard in the EDC.
Aiden Green Aiden Green 6'0" | PG Horace | 2027 State ND (2027) |5’9 G| Horace
Green played with both the varsity and JV (comments are from the varsity games). He put up a handful of points with steals that led to wide-open transition layups. Green is an advanced athlete with breakaway speed. Aiden impressed me with his crossover, he made a few defenders look silly. As Ricky Bobby would say, Green can “Shake-n-Bake”! On multiple occasions, I saw Aiden size up his defender, cross, and then shake the defender. Green would start left but always came back to his right hand. He created many TO’s on D and showed off a nice mid-range J.
Carter Evanson Carter Evanson 6'0" | PG HHS | 2026 MN (2026) |5’11 G| Horace
Easy Money lived up to his name once again! I liked him as a shooter before, now I might even admire his shot. Carter makes it look so so easy. For such a young player, Evanson is masterful with how he moves, reacts, and spaces around the arc. I am impressed with how Evanson moves into his shot, is always prepared, and how he gets it off quickly but it does not look like he hurries. His nickname is Easy Money but he is a SNIPER.
Brady Westphal Brady Westphal 6'2" | SG West Fargo Horace | 2025 State ND (2025) |6’0 G| Horace
He is a lethal lefty! I do not know how Brady shot after the first two games but he was HOT from beyond the arc in the morning. Brady was not just making them an inch or two behind the arc. He was hitting them from the cheap seats. The nice thing is, it never seems like Westphal is forcing it. His form looks the same from the FT-line as it does from beyond college range. On defense, Brady deflected/tipped passes and he blocked a shot. Westphal and Evanson are comrades that add to the scoreboard 3-points at a time. Those two shooters are going to keep the defenses in the EDC honest.
Moose Diomande Moose Diomande 6'3" | SF Horace | 2024 State ND (2024) |6’3 SF| Horace
He hit the first 3 of the day for the Hawks! Diomande scored in transition and his crafty handles were on display. Moose has fancy footwork when attacking and finishing around the rim. I don’t often watch box-outs but every time I looked up it seemed like Diomande was securing his man and grabbing a defensive board. That is an easy way to stay on the court, always box your man and rebound!
Ryder Majkrzak Ryder Majkrzak 5'11" | PG Horace | 2027 State ND (2027) |5’7 PG| Horace
He ran the show for the Hawk JV squad. Ryder was not the biggest player on the court but he showed off his skill and quickness. He likes to use a jab step and he utilizes a shot fake often. Majkrzak is clever about keeping defenders off balance and how to get a breath of fresh air for a clean shot. I did not see a whole lot of his game but Ryder is definitely a shooter. He hit back-to-back triples and his shot is pure. He likes shooting when going to his left. Ryder’s first triple came off the dribble and the second was off a hand back. The Hawks already have many talented shooters in their program, it looks like coach Cummings has another deadeye from downtown!
Owen Terras Owen Terras 6'2" | SF Horace | 2027 State ND (2027) |5’10 SF| Horace
I did not see a ton of his JV game but I liked the way that Terras moved the ball. It never got sticky in his hands and he was always quick to get the reversal. These days it seems like everyone wants to pound the ball, it was refreshing to see a young player that wanted to pass the ball and get his teammates involved. When Owen caught inside the arc, the first thing he looked for was a cutting teammate. In the past I have seen the young Hawk score, today he stood out with his unselfishness.
Kayson Bernstien Kayson Bernstien 6'6" | C Sheyenne | 2026 MN (2026) |6’5 PF| Sheyenne
The Mustangs only had their JV today and Bernstien did some good things. With his height and extensive wingspan, Kayson easily stood out. When I was watching, Bernstien got to the line often and he was gobbling up the offensive rebounds. Kayson is a lefty and I like how he kept the ball high so the smaller players could not get their claws on the rock. Bernstien is a bit raw but he is only going to be a soph. Kayson has a good foundation, length, and plenty of potential.
Jack Mekalson Jack Mekalson 6'2" | PG Battle Lake | 2024 State MN (2024) |6’1 PG| Battle Lake
He is a stud point guard. Mekalson is a strong lead guard with all the skills. He is an aggressive slasher who zooms past defenders. Contact does not bother him, Jack had no trouble beating help defenders. He is physical around the rim and also showed a noteworthy pull-up game. Mekalson was also productive from beyond the arc. The Battlers did not win the game, but Mekalson was constantly getting two feet in the paint, and he was one of the top guards at Nemzek today.
Mason Dalluge (2024) |6’3 F| Battle Lake
He is an athlete! Dalluge is long, rangy, and mobile. His wingspan is impressive. Dalluge is a stat stuffer that is always around the ball when its coming off the rim or on the floor. Mason is a triple-double type player. Dalluge is a workhorse and a “glue guy”. He looked good knocking down a 15-foot baseline jumper on a BLOB and he made a play slashing down the lane from the pro spot. Dalluge looks like a nice player.
Bradyn Roisum (2026) |6’7 PF| Battle Lake
He stuck out right away because of his height and frame. Roisum is very long and he can do it inside and out. He showed good feet when catching on the block, spinning quickly, and attacking the rim. The BIG incoming soph also caught on the wing and drained a smooth triple. I imagine that Bradyn is a difficult matchup in Minnesota class A. His long arms also make him a productive rebounder and shot challenger.
Trevor Schmidt Trevor Schmidt 6'5" | SF South Border | 2024 ND (2024) |6’4 SF| South Border
On the first possession I watched, Schmidt was on D, he came across the lane on help-side defense, and he rose up to block a shot with perfect timing. Without watching him shoot, it was easy to see that Schmidt has a good feel for the game. He moves with a purpose and is always in the right spot. Schmidt showed a sweet jump shot that he hit from 17 feet and another from the middle of the paint. He has a soft touch and is good at creating space. Trevor can post up for buckets or space the floor. When he gets on the perimeter, he draws attention because he can shoot it, and this opens up space for his fellow Mustangs to slash. He is strong and has an old-school feel to his game. Schmidt is an excellent passer that sees the floor well. His footwork has come a long way in the past year, he works hard in the weight room & in the gym, Trevor has a high IQ and he makes everyone around him a better player.
