There were many standouts throughout the event, and plenty of offers were thrown around as well. Here’s a look at part one of some of the 2024 standouts from the Virginia schools in attendance.
Jason Clarke Jason Clarke 6'1" | PG Miller School | 2024 State VA | 6’0” PG | Miller School
Clarke wasted no time making his name known, as his first game was one of the best of either session despite pulling a hamstring early in the game that kept him out of their two games on Sunday. The lead guard showed a lot in his game including his ability to shoot the cover off of the rock both off the catch and off the bounce, he showed good burst and finished well through contact, he has great feel and can get open both off the bounce and off the ball and he showed he’s a lock down defender on the ball, all while hurt mind you. In his first game he was incredible going for 40 points on 13-for-16 from the field and 8-for-10 from deep and 6-for-6 from the line in 25 minutes, and despite being severely hobbled he still managed to go for 20 points and 6 rebounds while playing all 32 minutes in their second game.
Reece Hagy Reece Hagy 6'8" | SF Miller | 2024 State VA | 6’7” WF | Miller School
Hagy played in spurts last season for the Miller team that went to the state championship game last year, and this summer he’s been a breakout player who recently picked up an offer from Air Force and he showed why with consistent play throughout session 2. At 6’7” with long arms he has the ability to get deflections and challenge shots, he shoots the ball well from deep and he competes across the board. He finished the event averaging 19.8 points on 59% shooting from the field and 37.5% from deep and he pitched in 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.
Mekai Johnson Mekai Johnson 6'4" | SG Bishop Ireton | 2024 State VA | 6’5” WF | Bishop Ireton
Johnson was a standout in session one, and he continued his stellar play and should see his stock rise if college coaches do their job and see his major upside moving forward. He just keeps getting better and better and already has a college ready body, he shot the ball well from multiple levels, he competed on both ends and he made the right play consistently. He finished the event averaging 12.3 points on 52% shooting from the field and 61.5% from deep, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
Jamari Hodnett Jamari Hodnett 6'2" | PG Bishop Ireton | 2024 State VA | 6’1” PG | Bishop Ireton
Hodnett is the glue guy and x-factor for this Ireton team, as he is one of their best playmakers and finds a lot of ways to make a positive impact without having to shoot the ball very much. He handles pressure well and he plays with great pace and poise, he has a great IQ and good vision and passing ability with the ball in his hands, he is a very good on ball defender and he’s willing to sacrifice his body for his team. He finished the event averaging 7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals per game.
Jadyn Harris Jadyn Harris 6'6" | PF Bishop O'Connell | 2024 State #239 Nation VA | 6’6” F | Bishop O’Connell
Harris continued his steady play from session 1 into session 2, being the leader on both ends of the floor and doing whatever it takes to help his team win. They have a lot of fire power and while he showed his versatility as a scorer in many ways he also deferred when his teammates were hot, he was very efficient and scored the ball when he needed to in many different ways and he did all the little things to help his team. He finished the event averaging 10 points on 52% shooting, 4.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
AJ Swinton | 6’7” WF | Bishop O’Connell
While Swinton didn’t put up huge scoring numbers, he showed his big time athleticism on both ends of the floor with show stopping plays above the rim and he brought great energy to his team. With his build and athleticism he can guard and play almost every position on the floor, he plays above the rim with authority, he’s a great rim protector coming help side and in chase downs and he brings great energy to his team. He finished the event averaging 6.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 3.3 blocks per game.
Doyle Brown Doyle Brown 6'1" | SG Bethel Academy | 2024 State VA | 6’2” WG | Fairfax Christian
Brown followed up a solid session one with an even better session two, as he scored the ball efficiently and in bunches throughout the event as one of the top scorers in attendance. He’s a strong two guard who gets good elevation on his shot and can really drill it from deep, he can get downhill and play through contact, he has a good midrange game and he’s a solid on ball defender. He finished the event averaging 17 points on 56% shooting from the field hitting 12 threes over 3 games.
