The event featured top talent from 15U-17U, and had a lot of guys we expect to blow up over the June and July live periods.
Here’s a look at part two of the standouts from the VA teams in attendance.
Paul Jones | 6’3” WG | Team Loaded 757 17U
Jones has been one of the biggest stock risers in the state so far this spring picking up a number of division one offers, and he showed why at the CBG event as he showed his elite scoring package and versatility as a shot maker. He has deep range to start things off with the ability to take defenders into deep waters and knock down shots well beyond the NBA line, he can handle the rock and create space with his ability to change speeds and good elevation on his shot and he makes it look easy making tough shots from all there levels.
Tyler Bell Tyler Bell 6'6" | PF Maury | 2024 State VA | 6’8” PF | Team Loaded 757 17U
Bell is a big man out of Maury to keep an eye on as he’s hit a recent growth spurt and his body has come a long way, and he’s starting to figure out how to play at this size now. He’s a load in the paint as he’s strong and can clear out space to rebound and finish around the rim, he has good touch out to the midrange and can work well from the elbows as a shooter and a distributor and he is an intimidating presence in the paint defensively too.
Brent Thompson | 5’11” CG | Team Marsh 17U
Thompson is one of a number of under the radar talents at Benedictine, and he had a good showing as he put up some big numbers for BWSL Marsh helping them go 2-1 on the weekend. The 5’11” lefty is a true bucket getter as he is quick off the bounce and has the ability to finish over bigger defenders when he gets downhill, he shoots the cover off the ball from deep and has a quick release both off the catch and off the bounce and he can get hot quickly and fill it up in bunches.
Mason Jones | 6’6” PF | Team Marsh 17U
The St. Andrew’s (MD) forward wasted no time making his presence felt in their first win over Team Richmond, and throughout the event he showed his versatility and was a walking mismatch for other teams. The 6’6” forward is a good athlete who gets up and down and can guard multiple positions defensively, he plays with a good motor and has a knack for being around the ball as a rebounder and he can finish in the paint and step out and stretch the floor as well.
Jordan Clayton | 6’3” WF | Team Marsh 17U
Clayton may be the player who put himself on the radar the most at this event, as he was productive throughout the event and showed a lot of upside moving forward. The 6’3” wing played with a great motor flying around defensively and hitting the glass on both ends against bigger guys, he showed the ability to play on the ball where he got downhill aggressively and created shots for himself and he scored the ball in a variety of ways for his team.
Mason Pullam | 6’0” CG | Team Richmond 17U
Pullam is emerging as one of the more under the radar players in the Richmond area, as he’s putting together a strong summer and is getting better every time we see him play. The Cosby guard is the type of player you love to have on your team as he’s willing and capable of doing whatever it takes to win as he competes on both ends, takes and makes good shots and is an unselfish playmaker who makes others better as well.
Kevin Lucas | 5’11” PG | Team Richmond 17U
Lucas is another player who has emerged for this Team Richmond group as an under the radar scoring guard who is one of the best shooters in the Richmond area. The Manchester guard is always in go mode as he can handle the rock and get his team into sets, he is within range as soon as he steps over half court and he’ll make you pay for not picking him and he doesn’t go through long cold streaks as a shooter and that opens the offense up for everyone.
Jordan Watlington Jordan Watlington 6'5" | SF Menchville | 2024 State VA | 6’2” CG | CBG Select 17U
I’ve been a big fan of Watlington over the past few years, and he showed he’s ready for a breakout season at Menchville this season where he’ll be the go-to guy for them. The 6’2” guard is an all-out style player who brings it on both ends and does the dirty work, he gets downhill effortlessly and is a good finisher and playmaker when he touches the paint and he can score the ball in different ways and has become a much more consistent shooter over the past few years.
CJ Parker CJ Parker 6'6" | SF Maury | 2024 State VA | 6’6” F | CBG Select 17U
Parker is a player we’ve been keeping an eye on over the past few years, and he showed his versatility and the tools that make him so intriguing moving forward for the next level. At 6’6” he has long arms and a basketball frame that should fill out nicely over the next few years, he has good ball skills on the perimeter where he can make shots from deep and put it on the deck and he’s able to play and guard multiple positions allowing them to go with different looks.
