Tons of underrated prospects were on display, but one of the main highlights to watch were the point guards on display. Let’s take a look at some of the top athletes who pushed the tempo on both ends of the court for their teams this weekend.

Kheiri Haynes Kheiri Haynes 5'9" | PG Zachary | 2024 State LA
Kheiri is someone I would classify as a dual threat point guard who can either facilitate the offense or create his own shot when the defense leaves him space. He showed off his expertise in both areas on Sunday afternoon in the contest against North Houston Hustle. Haynes is very aware of where his teammates are on the floor at all times and never hesitates to give the ball up for a better opportunity. Kheiri also showed his prowess shooting off the dribble, using a couple of quick dribble moves to get by his defender and either get to the rim or pull up for a steady jumper in the midrange or beyond the arc. Despite being undersized, he always finds way to get buckets either for himself or his teammates and plays with a ton of heart. Look for Haynes to continue this momentum into further grassroots contests.
De’rayne Franklin
De’rayne Franklin
Franklin does not necessarily play a guard spot while he is on the floor, but he is still able to up the tempo with his thunderous dunks and athleticism under the basket. He also plays very vocal on defense and is a highly physical player who possesses the skills to make his matchup uncomfortable with the ball at all times. Franklin had several athletic and fastbreak dunks where his teammate threw him a perfect pass for him to slam it down and excite the audience. His athleticism was definitely unmatched in this tournament for any competition he played against and should continue to be like that for most of the tournaments the Broncos are entered into. I would like to see Franklin develop more of an outside shot, but he had several successful attempts under the basket, so why stop what’s working?
Maurice Causey
Maurice Causey
Causey showed great quickness and ease getting to the rim in Bayou City’s afternoon game on Sunday against Pasadena Lockdown. Maurice was able to take long strides with a few dribble moves past his defender to the basket and finish with a layup or dunk every time he had the ball in isolation. Maurice also has great IQ when it comes to floor spacing and always knows where to be in the right position to where his point guard can feed him the rock to get a basket. In route to a 3-1 record for the weekend, Causey made some major contributions for BCH Elite and this doesn’t even count his work on the defensive end. With his long wingspan, it is easy for him to stay in the passing lanes and make several tipped balls into steals.
Marcus Goodloe
Marcus Goodloe
Marcus was a big time playmaker in his One Dream team’s contest against Calumet City. Goodloe spaced the offense well as often as possible, while also showing his ability to excel in the pick and roll with multiple teammates, always knowing the right times to feed them the ball. Marcus showed extreme patience this weekend on more than one occasion where he was able to distribute the rock, but also use the isolation method to drive to the basket or score off the catch and shoot. I saw a couple times that Goodloe ran around a few screens and methodically used the pick to create enough space to get a shot off and drain it from deep. The bottom line is Goodloe possesses extreme offensive awareness to the highest level and can get a bucket if needed for his squad. Marcus ended the win against Calumet with 14 points and 7 assists, coming just shy of a double-double.
Ty Johnson
Ty Johnson
Ty was a very aggressive guard this weekend when it came to scoring the basketball and took it upon himself to shoulder his team in the offensive department. With that being said, this does not mean that Johnson played a completely selfish type of game all weekend as he was still averaging about 5-6 assists per contest like a true point guard. In his team’s Saturday morning loss to WBBP 2026, Ty finished with 15 points, including three 3 pointers in a row from the same spot behind the arc due to late rotation by the defense. Johnson was also great at taking the ball to the rim off a hard screen from his teammates and finishing up and over contact. The main thing to draw away from Johnsons game is that he can score the ball in a variety of ways, but also knows how to set his teammates up in right positions to get them good looks at the basket and that showed this weekend.
