Memorial Weekend Roundup: Most Dynamic Players

When you’re watching middle school basketball, you’re always searching for the biggest player on the floor. JCJ was that but it was his fundamentals that impressed me. He controled the pace of the game from a point forward position, and did a great job of being economical with the use of the bounce. The tendancy for young players is to catch and dribble, Clark caught faced and attacked. He showed the ability to drive to the rim as well as hit teammates with on time on target passes.

Word is Martineau is growing at such an exponential rate that he had to change jerseys during the tournament becasue he grew out of the old one. His size wasn’t the only thing that stood out about his game. He has a nifty handle and did a good job breaking the press or initiating the offense from a point forward position. His skill set made him one of the top grab and go players at the event as several times he got an defensive board, and pushed the break.

At first I thought James was a player just scoring his buckets because he was leaking out in transition. Then I realized he was out in transition because he had gotten another tip or deflection. The wing was one of the most active players I saw during the weekend. Whenever he was around the ball, you didn’t always know exactly what was going to happen, but you knew that he was going to make something happen.

When I watch Byrd play, I couldn’t help but think. “There’s something there”. At least once a game he would do something that would make you turn your head. He had a spectacular euro move on the way to the basket, he didn’t complete the layup, but the agility and technique he showed getting to the cup made you take notice. He’s long and showed that he can impact the game with his rebounding and defense as well.

Lindsey was one of those players that made you watch. He has a basketball frame, complete with long arms. He was a blur both with and without the ball, as he used active hands to create passing lanes steals, and pure speed to score in transition. He wasn’t just getting two point buckets either, as he showed the ability to pull up and knock down threes as well.

While for most of the players on the list, there were a variety of things that made some of the players dynamic, it was how dynamic Troya was with one skill that got him on the list. He can flat out score the basketaball. The 5’7 scoring guard put the multi in multi level scoring, as he showed the ability to finish at the rim, knock down threes in catch and shoot and score using the bounce. Has been one of the more dynamic bucket getters the last couple times I’ve watche him perform.
