It is time for a preview article on ND Attack!

This 17U Green team has two tournaments in the books. They are currently running hot as they went 4-0 last weekend down in Watertown. They hope to keep that going this weekend in Minnesota at the Battle at the Lakes. PHD is happy to have ND Attack on the PH Circuit this weekend.

This team has some underrated talent on its roster and they have some serious shooters. They also have some solid interior talent. ND Attack has an overall nice roster and I am excited to see them this weekend at Wayzata. Allen Olsen is the head coach of this ND Attack squad. During the high school season, Olsen is an assistant coach at Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier.

Get acquainted with these players. These guys will be some of the best B and A players in ND next season.

Best of luck this weekend! #PHBattleAtTheLakes

Battle at the Lakes-Schedule

*All games played at Wayzata High School*

10:10 Saturday (May 13) vs. Wisconsin United Murray

3:35 Saturday (May 13) vs. South Dakota Identity 2024

10:10 Sunday (May 14) vs. Minnesota Heat Morgan 2024

3:35 Sunday (May 14) vs. Team X Magic 17U

Tournament Schedule

DATES

TOURNAMENT

LOCATION

April 22-23

Sanford Spring Jam

Sioux Falls, SD

May 6-7

Dakota Niners

Watertown, SD

May 12-14

Battle at the Lakes

Wayzata, MN

June 28-30

Great Pains Alliance

St. Cloud, MN

July 8-9

Sioux City Summer Classic

Sioux City, IA

July 15-16

Hoopfest

Watertown, SD

July 22-23

Sanford Summer Classic

Sioux Falls, SD

Player Comments from coach Olsen

"[player_tooltip player_id='1168246' first='Braylon' last='Baldwin'] playmaker 5'10 from Grafton. He plays pg for us. Braylon has a good solid build and is a very talented ball-handler. Baldwin is a strong driver and finisher at the basket brings. He brings a large amount of energy and toughness to our team. He is also a strong defender. Baldwin has a nice shot but is sometimes too unselfish and needs to look to score more."

"[player_tooltip player_id='1145107' first='Landon' last='Moser'] 6'0 from Northern Cass plays the 2 guard and 1 guard for us at times. He has a great attitude and is a hard worker. Moser has good leadership skills and is extremely coachable. Landon has a good outside shot and is tough to stop going to the basket once he gets going downhill. Moser is a solid rebounder for his size. If your looking for intangibles this kid has them! Landon has the strength to play against bigger guys outside of his own position."

"[player_tooltip player_id='1705523' first='Drew' last='Overby'] 6'0 2 guard can play some point but his natural fit is the 2 guard. When he gets hot, look out! Drew can get on a hot streak from deep. He has very good range shooting the basketball. Overby is very coachable and also a very good team guy. Drew is a bit better defensively than I first thought."

"[player_tooltip player_id='1334001' first='Caleb' last='Enger'] 6'0 from Northern Cass. He is a good ballhandler, plays bigger and harder than his size and frame would suggest. Enger is one of our top rebounders and plays bigger post players tough. Caleb can shoot outside but his best game is driving to the basket, playing defense, and rebounding. He brings an attitude and toughness to our team!"

"[player_tooltip player_id='1144987' first='Weston' last='Zacher'] 6'8 from Grant Co. Mott-Regent. He is a good player inside the paint. Weston has a nice shot outside and can hit the 3. Zacher is also a productive rebounder. He is extremely coachable, plays hard, and is an excellent teammate."

"[player_tooltip player_id='1164807' first='Jacob' last='Nitschke'] 6'4 from Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier. He is an inside-outside player that can handle the ball and start the fast break-off of defensive rebounds. Nitschke is a BIG that must be guarded everywhere on the offensive side of the floor. He has an excellent attitude and likes to get others involved. Jake is a good leader on and off the court."

"[player_tooltip player_id='1146180' first='Jace' last='Jochim'] 6'1 from Linton. He has about as nice of a shot as you could ask for (has range also). Jochim is excellent at setting up his moves and then also finishing strong at the basket. He plays the 2 or 3 guard spots for us depending on the lineup we have. He is a solid rebounder for his position also. Jace is a great kid with a great attitude and is coachable."

"[player_tooltip player_id='1770389' first='Kyler' last='Droog'] 6'5 Sophomore. He is playing a level up with us and fits right in. Droog has a nice shot inside of 16ft. He is highly competitive and he will make you work for everything you get. Kyler is smart and picks up things very quickly for his age an excellent teammate."

"[player_tooltip player_id='1144605' first='Jake' last='Shobe'] 6'0 from Dickinson Trinity. I have not had a chance to work with him yet. He has had track so far during all of our tournaments."

Q&A with Allen Olsen

PHD: What can you tell us about your tournament last weekend?

Coach Olsen: "First day of the Dakota Niners Tournament we had 6 kids and we went 2-0 that day. We honestly didn't shoot well at all as a team but we played well as a team meaning, we defended well, rebounded well, got up in transition, took good shots but they didn't fall and that's just how it goes. Everyone just kept playing through it, which was what I wanted to see. The second day of the tournament we had 8 kids which made a big difference. I was able to sub more so our legs were fresher and shots fell a bit more. The boys had 2 really tough games. We won our 1st game of the day by a last-second shot from [player_tooltip player_id='1705523' first='Drew' last='Overby'] as time expired. This first game was a struggle though the other team came out with a lot of energy and it took us quite some time to match it. The second game was a close physical battle. We won that game by 10 or 12 in the end. [player_tooltip player_id='1168246' first='Braylon' last='Baldwin'], [player_tooltip player_id='1145107' first='Landon' last='Moser'], and our extra player [player_tooltip player_id='1145108' first='Luke' last='Martinson'] 6'5 from Sargent Co. came up big with either a crucial stop, rebound, or basket. Baldwin was all over the place and set the tone defensively for us by harassing their guards all game and diving on the floor for loose balls (we had several others do this I just thought that Braylon was really the catalyst in this game)."

PHD: What do you hope to improve on as the season moves forward?

Coach Olsen: "As the season moves on I would like us to be better on the offensive end with quicker ball reversals and better post-entry passes. I would also like us to be more consistent with coming out of the gates faster to start our games, and boxing out harder."

PHD: What are some of your strengths as a team?

Coach Olsen: "Strengths of our team are character and our team's closeness. We seem to have a tight group that loves to play together and compete hard! When our shooters are on we have plenty of them and with our inside game, we can be tough. If we start to gel a bit better and understand our roles from game to game, and as their coach I have to get better at putting them into the right spots in the right situations to help them be a successful team and as individual players."

PHD: What style of ball do you play on defense?

Coach Olsen: "We like to play fast when we have enough guys. I like to press and do some half-court trap, we also like to mix it up defensively. My top 2 defenders right now would be [player_tooltip player_id='1168246' first='Braylon' last='Baldwin'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1334001' first='Caleb' last='Enger'] because they can defend multiple positions."

PHD: Who are your best 3-point shooters?

Coach Olsen: "Our best 3-point shooters are [player_tooltip player_id='1705523' first='Drew' last='Overby'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1146180' first='Jace' last='Jochim'] because they can both create their own 3-point shots off the bounce or they can come off screens. Those two will also hit shots off set plays and can shoot it with range. If I had to pick a player to take the 3 at the end of the game I'd pick either of those Overby or Jochim."

"In closing, this team has huge upside with our inside guys working with our outside guys. I'm sure once we can consistently get our core group of guys playing together we will start to gel and see what this team can really do. I have enjoyed working with this group and look forward to the rest of the tournaments we have coming up. All these kids have brought a great attitude and work ethic. have also met almost all the parents from my team and after meeting most of them I can see where the kids get their character drive and competitiveness!" -Allen Olsen
