The weekend at Triton Central High school brought a ton of talent to the Indianapolis area. Below were some of the top shooters in the event.
Braaten is a really good player. He has great size which allows him to guard 1-4 and be super versatile offensively. He can put the ball on the floor and drive past slower defenders and finish well once he gets to the rim. Although he can impact the game in a variety of ways, I thought he was at his best shooting the basketball. With his size, he was able to shoot over defenders and shoot both off the catch and dribble. Has a nice compact shot which allows him to shoot from deep 3pt range. He seemed very comfortable putting the ball on the floor pulling up from mid-range as well. Big time shooter.
Hayes was without a doubt one of the best shooters this past weekend. He has great size to get shots off that he wants and also moves well without the ball to find open spots to catch and shoot. He was always prepared to shoot as he did a great job getting shot ready. I will have to give a ton of credit as well to his teammates as they did a great job finding him and giving him good passes to quickly shoot. He’s a guy every time he shoots it you think it’s going in.
Asgedom has a smooth, compact left handed shot that is knockdown when he gets his feet set and given time. He doesn’t over complicate his shot which is why it’s so smooth and he just shoots open shots. He never really forced anything and took what defenses gave him. Loved his rotation on his shot as well as it provided him to get some bounces to go his way.
Peak has all the tools to be a great stretch 4 the more his career develops. Has good size and length which will likely translate to be a forward and that will make him a mismatch nightmare. He can really shoot the basketball, especially off the catch. Does a great job getting his body squared to shoot and elevate. I think he could be a really really good pick and pop player, especially in drag screens in early offense.
Renfree is a big time shooter off the catch. He knocked down a couple timely shots when I watched them play and never seemed to shy away from taking the high pressure ones. He floated around the perimeter to find open spaces and was always ready to shoot the basketball. He is another player that could develop into a really good “3 and D” guy as he continues to grow.
Howell is a gamer. He can hurt you in a multitude of ways whether he’s attacking the basket, defending other teams big men or shooting tough jumpers from 3pt range. Ironically what he was most successful all weekend at given his size and strength, was 3pt shooting. He made tough shot after tough shot, no matter if it was off the catch or dribble. He had no issues coming off screens to shoot and pull up. He is a player that thrives in pressure situations and wants to take the big shot.
Kuszmaul is another player on Mac Boys Basketball that can really shoot it. He was always shot ready which allowed him to have a quick release. He played very simple and never seemed to play outside of himself. I walked away most impressed with the attention he drew because he could shoot. He may not have gotten all the shots he wanted, but it opened up the floor for his teammates to drive which helped them win the championship.
Dobbins Jr. is a really good player that plays at his own pace. Never seemed to get sped up and let the game come to him. He was at his best trailing plays, catching and getting downhill or catching and shooting from 3pt range. He has a very simple shot and doesn’t get a ton of elevation when he jumps which allows him to be consistent. Good shooter both off the catch and dribble.
