But there were plenty others who stood out.
We will be looking more in-depth at this group in coming articles. But for now, here are some of the top Kansas 15U guards from the Midwest Grind Session (in alphabetical order):
Cole Dillon
Cole Dillon
HOH had a bevy of talented guards. Dillon certainly deserves to be mentioned among the best for his impact over the weekend. He absolutely lit it up from deep, probably one of the best outside shooters at the event. But he’s more than just a spot-up shooter. He rebounds and pushes the ball up the floor, attacks the goal and draws fouls. He is listed at 6-foot but plays much bigger with his long arms and athleticism. He blocked shots and was a pickpocket in the backcourt.

Hammond joined Dillon in knocking down a lot of threes at the Midwest Grind Session. He’s a lefty shooter who showed athleticism to rebound, push the ball in transition and make deft passes on penetration. He’s showed good vision and judgment. He’s a smooth guard who can score.
Jack Horsch

If they gave out awards for effort at the Midwest Grind Session, Horsch would be highly decorated. He was a heat seeking missile, flying up and down the court with and without the ball making plays. He fearlessly attacks the goal or pulls up for jumpers off the bounce. He makes steals, blocks shots and picks off passes at the defensive end. Horsch will be a coach’s favorite – he is athletic and never stops working.
There weren’t a lot of small school players at the Midwest Grind Session, but Martin certainly turned some heads. He played point guard or off the ball about equal amounts for the Padres this weekend. When his team needed a play, it seemed like it put a lot of trust in Martin. He plays longer than 6-foot, using long arms to cross up defenders or get shots off. He can get hot and connect on multiple threes in a hurry. Martin was a gamer who gave his all to keep the Padres competitive.
Highlights
A physical and gritty guard, Quirin impresses the longer you watch him. He uses his strength and size to bully opponents, driving through contact and making kickouts or getting to the goal. He hit from deep too, but was most impressive on the bounce. Defensively, he was the first on the floor for loose balls, he blocked shots and he bodied up opposing guards.
