Continue ReadingPlaymaking in basketball is the ultimate skill or trait to have no matter the era of basketball. Being able to read different defensive sets and make the right basketball plays for your team is what every player should look to achieve. Everything moves better when the ball is flowing throughout an offense. This list has players that have those skills and will look to grow as playmakers the more experience they all get. Here are my top playmakers for the 2024 class.
Seals is a player that likes to push the ball up the floor and keep defenses on their feet at all times. He will look to pass into mismatches for better shots for his team. Seals is also able to spread the floor out and shoot from deep with extended range forcing the defense to collapse more. His ability to take you off the dribble is what makes his playmaking special because he can drive into the lane and draw multiple defenders for easy kick outs to the three-point line for open shots.
Highlights
Frauenheim likes to kick the ball up every possession to keep an up-tempo pace throughout a game. He makes excellent chest and bounce passes when in the heart of the lane looking for diving teammates. A floor general at heart Frauenheim commands the ball and will always make the correct passes for his team. He also has a bit of flash to his game dishing out no-look dimes fooling defenses. Frauenheim finished with 158 assists this season.
Eglinton Manner is already known for his impressive shooting touch but also knows how to run an offense. He makes clean bounce passes to cutting teammates keeping his eyes up at all times. His excellent transition ability is him making correct passes or going up for the shot himself. Since Eglinton Manner is a threat from deep, he can get into the paint with his tight handles and kick it out to open shooters.
Highlights
Cavanaugh takes instant control of the offense every time he brings the ball up the court. He sees plays well before they happen and knows exactly who to pass them to. Cavanaugh makes impressive whip-around passes around the baseline area to find open big men in the paint. He loves to run the pick-and-roll action as he can hit the roller with a smooth pass or go up and finish through contact for the tough layup. Cavanaugh is great at drawing double teams which he uses to hit the open man for the shot.
Jones is great at everything on the offensive end but his passing ability is what separates and makes his game stand out. He thrives in fast-paced settings always looking to push the tempo. Jones makes clean tight passes in small windows that most guards couldn’t make. He also reads defenses well and knows when to make the right pass. Taking advantage of mismatches is another thing he likes to do because it creates more opportunities for the team. Jones overall has 231 assists in his last two seasons.
