as Brad Beal Elite (MO) opened Saturday play with Team Griffin (OK). It took Tanner just over a minute to take his first shot, a reverse layup in traffic finished with an acrobatic flair.
Tanner took his first three-pointer midway through the opening quarter. Missed it long. It was a clean look. Good form. Just missed.
Perhaps you remember Jordan McCullum, son of a Harriman High star and former Harriman High School player himself. Jordan starts alongside Tyler for Brad Beal. The Missouri-based AAU program recruited the two of them, as every NIKE program is allowed to feature players from the program’s home state or an adjacent state. Turns out recruiting players from Tennessee is quite popular. See MoKan, CP3, Brad Beal, etc.
Jordan scored on his first three shots to help Brad Beal out to a quick 12-3 lead in the opening three minutes.
How about his defense?

played it safe and steady on the defensive end early. He did not jump passing lanes. He did not reach or try for a steal or two. Tanner kept in front of his man, David Castillo, and collapsed a little to provide light help when the ball fed the post.
With 3:14 to play in the opening quarter Tanner jumped his first passing lane and deflected the ball out of bounds. He read the play well and almost collected his first steal. It was a pass from the top of the key to the near corner.
Tanner’s mark, Castillo hit two three-pointers late in the opening quarter.
End 1Q: 20-13 Beal. Tanner’s line: 4p, 2-3 FG, 1a.
Backcourt star Jeremiah Fears played fantastically in the opening half. Fears’ older brother is signed to Michigan State University. Jeremiah is a sophomore now and playing up with Brad Beal 17u. Slight of frame. Very quick. Exceptional shooting motion. Poised. Patient. Talented.
