[player_tooltip player_id='861092' first='Jalen' last='Childs'] is looking forward to the next level. Where that is for the talented 6-foot-3 point guard is yet to be decided, but the Beaverton senior can look back with no regrets. He helped lead the Beavers to the state tournament and earn a trophy and after the season concluded was selected to play with Team Oregon in WAVOR the Game, an experience he'll always cherish.

"Being on this team, it was a lot of fun," Childs said. "You know, a lot of these dudes I've competed against for the past four years, so the fact that I got a chance to play with Jojo (Lake), Esyah (Pippa-White), the twins (Brown and Seely-Roberts), and dudes like that, it was really fun. It was a great experience."

In the game Childs scored six points, but really looked to facilitate by tallying five assists against only two turnovers. The shift from scoring to passing is something that was indicative of his senior season at Beaverton, one in which he averaged 13.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, adn 3.0 assists.

"I was at Sunset before and I had the chance to obviously score a lot more points - I feel like I showed that," Childs said. "And then when I came (to Beaverton), my goal and role was to be more of a floor general, because when I go to college, I'm not going to be scoring 30, 20 a night. So getting the chance to still score and make my teammates better and make myself better as well and get coached a lot harder, I feel like that was a great experience, and
I feel like it helped me a lot in the long run instead of being the best now."

The next step now for Childs is working on his college recruitment. He recently made an official visit to St. Martin's, who has offered him a full ride. He continues to talk with Division I schools Maryland-Eastern Shore and Middle Tennessee State but is continuing to think about his options with a deadline in mind.

"The best fit for me, you know, regardless what division is, I don't really care - just like, where I can come in and develop, become a better player over the four years and then go play pro somewhere," Childs said. "I want to (commit) before the end of April because a lot of schools will move on and start looking before, so I want to jump on whatever I get as soon as possible so I don't get passed on, hopefully by the end of April."

Childs currently ranks as the #3 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2023 rankings.
