The HGSL, which is Hoop Group’s circuit, features some of the top teams from across the country, with an endless amount of prospects for all levels.
Here’s a look at some of the HGSL Prospects to keep an eye on from VA teams in attendance.
Josiah Rickards Josiah Rickards 6'3" | CG Catholic | 2024 State VA | 6’3” CG | Team Loaded 757
Rickards is an HGSL alumni as he played on Loaded 757 last season and he’s been one of the most consistent performers in the 757 over the past few years. The combo guard has a great feel to the game and knows how to change speeds and directions to get to spots off the bounce, he finishes well through contact and he can score the ball from all three levels effortlessly.
Paul Jones Paul Jones 6'4" | CG Combine Academy | 2024 State NC | 6’2”CG | Team Loaded 757
Jones is another talented guard for this 757 group, as he had a huge junior season and recently announced he’s transferring to Combine next season. The 6’2” guard has terrific shot making ability as he has deep range from deep and can hit shots with a hand in his face, he is an explosive finisher above the rim and he’s tough to guard with his change of pace and direction.
Markus Robinson Markus Robinson 6'2" | SG Veritas | 2024 State VA | 6’3” WG | Team Loaded 757
Robinson is yet another D1 level talent on this 757 team who can flat out fill it up and makes them one of the best backcourts in the HGSL. He’s another talented shot maker who has great footwork to get into his shot and can make shots from deep and in the midrange, he works well off the ball to get open and he has a good IQ and feel for the game on both ends of the floor.
Walker Conrad Walker Conrad 6'7" | PF Strasburg | 2024 State VA | 6’9” PF | VA Premier
Conrad had a good junior season at Strasburg helping lead them to a state tournament appearance, and he’ll turn a lot of heads with his ability to play inside-out at his size. The 6’9” big has a big frame to post up and provide a big target for entry passes, he can finish around the rim with either hand and has good back-to-the-basket moves and he can step out on the perimeter where he can make shots too.
Travelle Bryson | 6’4” CG | VA Premier
Bryson is a talented guard playing with VA Premier out of Mooresville in North Carolina, and he may be the most intriguing player on this list for the next level. He’s a big guard who gets downhill aggressively and can finish at the rim and in the midrange, he’s shifty with the ball in his hands and can rock defenders with the cross-over and he has good vision and playmaking ability off the bounce too.
Maurice Davis Maurice Davis 6'5" | SF James River | 2024 State VA | 6’5” F | Team Richmond
Davis has had a good start to the summer for this balanced Team Richmond squad, as he’s a Swiss-army knife who can play multiple positions and impact the game in a number of ways. He has good ball skills and can put it on the deck and has good vision to make plays for others, he can hit the glass and run in transition for easy buckets and he can guard multiple positions too.
Harry Clarke Harry Clarke 6'5" | SF Midlothian | 2024 State VA | 6’5” WF | Team Richmond
Clarke is the type of player who could benefit greatly from a weekend in Pittsburgh, as he will turn heads with his positional size and his ability to shoot the rock. The 6’5” lefty moves well without the ball and can get into his shot quickly, he has good range and form from deep and is consistent as a shooter and he can create off the bounce and make shots in the midrange too.
Javon Brooks Javon Brooks 6'2" | CG Carmel | 2024 VA | 6’2” CG | Team Richmond
Brooks is perhaps Team Richmond’s best creator with the ball in his hands, as he is the one who can make plays off the bounce for himself and others. He’s a strong guard who can get downhill and play through contact, he can knock it down from deep off the catch and in the midrange off the pull-up and he’s an unselfish and good passer who makes others better.
