Day 1 of the event provided all of the exciting and impressive performances that we love to see. The Level of competition is through the roof. The Virginia Jumpoff is in action in Hampton, Virginia from April 28th to April 30th. Some of the top clubs from across the country are in attendance, giving there all in front of college coaches. Let’s dive into day 1 of the event and take a look at some of the electric 17u standouts.
Raphael Oshokoya
Raphael Oshokoya
Oshokoya was able to position himself in the dunker spot on drives to receive the dump off pass for easy shots at the rim time and time again. He was able to pull down strong rebounds in traffic and generated some second chance points on the offensive glass. On the defensive end, Oshokoya did a good job of maintaining the paint to deter drives and shots in the lane. He displayed the ability to flip his hips while defending drives and good lateral movement.
Pace was fluent at getting downhill by beating defenders with his tight handle for tough finishes at the rim. When attacking the paint, Pace showed the ability to play through contact as he got two feet inside of crowded lanes. He also knocked down the catch and shoot three with a confident and consistent form. On the defensive end, Pace did a good job of playing the passing lanes to punish lazy passes.
Highlights
Throughout Day 1 of Marquee Hoops Virginia Jumpoff, Goodman punished opposing defenders on the perimeter in a variety of ways. He was able use his advanced handle paired with quick foot speed to get to the rim and finish in a handful of ways. Goodman knocked down a very tough step-back three-pointer out of the triple threat position over a good contest on one possession. On Defense, Goodman was able to pick up loose balls and initiate fastbreaks in a heartbeat leading to transition assists.
Sellers was engaged defensively throughout day 1 of the event. Sellers was aware of drives at all times and able to get a hand on the ball a few times while digging at the drive, once ending up in a jump-ball. He did a good job of squeezing through on-ball screens to deny pull-up jumpers out of the pick and roll. On the offensive end, Sellers was able to knock down contested catch and shoot three-pointers and grab offensive boards in traffic for second chance points.
Highlights
Jenkins might have had one of if not the most dominant performance from day 1 of Marquee Hoops Virginia Jumpoff. On the offensive end, the physical guard brought good energy to the court as he put on a winning performance. Jenkins got into the lane at will. He was able to knock down push shots with soft touch, showed the ability to stop on a dime going full speed to create space for pull up jumpers, and knocked down a tough reverse pivot jumper in the mid range over a good contest. Jenkins playmaking was shining as he found divers from the post and was able to deliver passes throughout tight windows.
