David Douglas
David Douglas pushed the ball up the floor and finished plays in transition using his instincts better than most guards. Very impressive knack for changing directions and squeezing through tight windows, Douglas displayed the footwork to pick apart a defense or get around a defender or two while coming down hill. Terrific ability to contort his body and score from difficult angles around the basket, Douglas can take the ball over the top of a defender, step through two defenders in the lane, or euro his way inside for the finish and if the help defense slides over David found the closest teammate. On the other side of the ball, Douglas was an intense defender who sets the tone for each game with his aggressive ball pressure and quick active hands.
Serafin Mendez Serafin Mendez 6’4″ | PF Pojoaque Valley | 2026 State NM did everything the right way while contributing as a glue guy floor spacer with the prowess to change the game from the baseline, corners, and the dunker’s spot. Incredibly effective playing and stretching the floor off the ball, Mendez moved, cut, and rotated around the perimeter with a purpose often finding himself open enough to do damage from outside while spotting up. Willing passer, Serafin did an exceptional job of finding an open teammate with court vision, awareness, and understanding of when to score and when to kick it out. The 6-foot-5-inch prospect proved to be a standout two-way talent with tremendous potential as 3-and-D wing-forward, Mendez is one of New Mexico D1’s best defensive players as well one of their best all-around jump shooters. Mendez should also be noted as one of the toughest prospects of the weekend as he didn’t shy away from diving on the floor, competing on the boards, and giving his all for 50/50 balls.
DeAndre Rhodes
DeAndre Rhodes
DeAndre Rhodes and his motor was as productive as them comes. Defensively, he controlled the glass game after game and never gave up any layups uncontested. Rhodes showed exceptional offensive playmaking versatility, playing as sort of a point-forward on the court at times with the way he initiated the offense, moved the ball, set his feet from outside, got his own shot off the dribble, and got to the rack at will where he showed no trouble playing through contact. Rhodes didn’t have to be the best shot creator to get the look he wanted, he knew how to get to his spots and put in the ball in the hole.
Caleb Stephens
Caleb Stephens
Caleb Stephens shined bright this past weekend, he might be the biggest breakout performer of the event. Anytime a play was needed he made it, if they relied on a stop defensively he forced the turnover, and if the team was in dire need of a bucket he found a way to get it. Stepehens impressed me with his loud and vocal communication on defense, pointing and yelling out everything he saw. When it came to playing sound fundamental basketball, Caleb Stephens was one of, if not the best to do it.
Jabarih Washington
Jabarih Washington
6-foot-2, Jabarih Washington made his presence felt in a major way whether he was shutting down the paint on the defensive end or putting up points on the offensive end. Washington was an outstanding defensive anchor, he understood the importance of his physicality and he didn’t disappoint. This young forward made life tough for anyone attempting to score or rebound against him, Washington showcased stellar timing on the boards and swatted shots to the other end of the floor when they came his way. He competed with a relentless motor while playing with a fighting spiriting and willingness to do whatever it takes to help his team. On the offensive end, Jabarih made the defense pay in more way than one but oftentimes he utilized his length, strength, and burst of power to attack the lane and generate scoring opportunities. Washington is a very intriguing prospect, he’s raw, still developing, and showing good upside. He’s definitely a player to take note of because as his game and body matures he will become more and more of a force of nature.
