The Tour HoopsFest’s unsigned senior showcase drew 2023 standouts from all over Louisiana.
Here were a few notes on seven of the top performers and eye-catchers from the New Orleans, Baton Rouge, north shore, river and bayou parishes.
Shad Levy Shad Levy 6'3" | CG Dunham | 2023 State LA — 6-3 G/F — Dunham
The Class 2A all-state performer stood out from first sight with his long frame and strong, college-ready build that had college coaches asking whether he also played football. Levy used that size and strength and good explosiveness to get into the lane and to the basket almost at will, but shooting well enough from the perimeter and quickly stopping and elevating on mid-range pull-ups to force defenders to respect him as a three-level scoring threat. Levy was a more-than-reliable ball-handler on the perimeter and in the open court, but said he’s continuing to emphasize that aspect of his game and his perimeter shot this offseason to be the most well-rounded college player he can.
Trey Parham — 6-4 F — Ponchatoula
The key role player on his Green Wave’s Division-I Non-Select state championship run stood out through the season with his spot-up shooting and rebounding ability and had those aspects of his game and more on display Sunday. Parham drained open looks and battled for boards on both ends of the court, but also had the ball in his hands more in the open court, driving from the perimeter and creating from the post — whether attacking and getting his own shots or finding teammates.
James Parlow — 6-2 G/F — Shaun Dumas Academy
Parlow stood out with his long arms, exceptional feel for the game and deceptive quickness with the ball in his hands. He started Sunday finding open shots on the perimeter and taking advantage of confident range 2-3 feet beyond the arc. And when defenders began playing him more tightly to try to take away that shot, Parlow was past them and in the lane in the blink of an eye where he made great decisions pulling up for mid-range looks, attacking the rim or finding open teammates around the perimeter. His vision shone in transition as well, and he was quick to the ground for loose balls.
Jeremiah Pierre — 5-10 G — Lutcher
The Bulldogs’ guard was an impressive floor general in the setting with his ball-handling, vision to find his teammates and mix of paces to get by defenders and into the lane for his own baskets or dishes to open cutters or shooters. As one of the smaller players on the court much of the day, he also showed his fearlessness, physicality and timing to consistently attack the boards and come away with rebounds in the midst of several taller players.
Jaylin Shanks — 5-11 G — Jewel Sumner
The solidly built guard had a relatively quiet scoring day Sunday, but continually showed some of the event’s best court vision with well-placed, needle-threading passes rifled between defenders in the half-court and in transition to set up his teammates for open looks.
Jalan Washington Jalan Washington 6'1" | CG White Castle | 2023 State LA — 6-2 G/F — White Castle
Like Levy, the Class 1A all-state performer stood out with his solid build that helped him excel around the basket — particularly with his physical rebounding and ability to finish strong through contact. And Washington also showed the versatility to handle the ball some out beyond the perimeter and find driving lanes to attack and create his own scoring opportunities.
Roderick Dominque — 6-3 G/F — Baton Rouge Post Grad, Jehovah-Jireh
The long, lean wing started quietly before catching fire for one of the day’s hottest shooting stretches with four rapid-fire 3-pointers — mostly from the corner. And when those perimeter shots began falling, he was able to find opportunities on the block and across the lane.
