There were over 30 teams ranging from 17U-15U, with some of the top teams in the area taking place.
We will be spending the next week breaking down the many standouts we saw at the event. If you want to watch the replay, you can see it on the CBG Live Network.
Here’s a look at part 3 of the many 17U standouts from VA in the event.
Malcolm Velmar | 5’11” PG | Tru 757
Velmar had a good showing for a Tru 757 group that went 1-1 with a good showing, and he was big for them in their win over Team Loaded Bully City. The 5’11” guard from Peninsula Catholic showed good shift off the bounce as he got in the paint at will, he shot the ball well from deep and off the bounce he showed he can both finish over bigger defenders and create space and make shots on the perimeter. He showed a good scoring package as well as the ability to guard the ball and turn defenders too.
Daytwan Johnson | 6’4” CG | Tru 757
Johnson is coming off a big senior season at Booker T. Washington and is one of the best available seniors you’ll come across, which he showed with some big time performances. The 6’4” combo has great size at his position and can rise over defenders and knock downs hots, he gets downhill and is an athletic and strong finisher at the rim and he can move off the ball where he can knock down shots from deep. He’s a natural scoring guard who can get hot quickly and has takeover ability when he gets it going.
Leland Coleman Leland Coleman 6'6" | SF Trinity Episcopal | 2023 State VA | 6’6” WF | Team Loaded 804
Another one of the top unsigned seniors in the event, Coleman was fantastic playing with a talented unsigned senior group in Loaded 804 who caught stride and had a very good showing. The 6’6” wing from Trinity Episcopal is the perfect post grad candidate as he has good athletic and physical tools, he’s shown a lot of improvement over the past few years offensively and made shots at a high clip this past weekend and he can play above the rim and defends multiple positions too. He continues to trend in the right direction and should have a big summer with this group.
Will Bonde Will Bonde 6'7" | PF Miller School | 2023 State VA | 6’6” WF | Team Loaded 804
Bonde is one of those players that you love to have on your team and hate to play against, as he is the ultimate glue guy and the prototypical 3 and d archetype of a prospect. The unsigned senior from Miller School moved well off the ball and spot up where he knocked down shots consistently, he guards multiple positions and brings a toughness on the defensive end and he does the dirty work as a rebounder and making the hustle plays. He had a major impact on both ends of the floor and would be a great look for someone in need of a big shooter and defender.
Jordan Horne Jordan Horne 6'1" | PG Miller School | 2023 VA | 6’3” PG | Team Loaded 804
Horne is another Miller School unsigned senior who had a good showing in this one, as the 6’3” guard got after it hard on both ends of the floor and was a big spark for them in many ways. He plays like he’s shot out of a cannon as he flies around defensively and moves his feet well on the ball, he gets out in transition where he can make plays for others and when he gets downhill he’s a strong finisher through traffic. He brings a tenacity and energy to his team with his all-out style of play and coming off a big senior year he should have plenty of coaches looking at him.
Danzelle Coles Danzelle Coles 6'5" | SG St Anne Belefield | 2025 State VA | 6’3” CG | CBG Select
The First Team All State selection at Highland Springs is coming off a season where he showed he’s one of the top players in the Richmond area, and he showed a lot of game on Saturday. At 6’3” he has long arms and is a good athlete who has a quick first step and changes directions well, he makes shots from deep and can get hot quickly and he can move off the ball where he can cut and get open to knock down shots from multiple levels. He’s a good rebounder and defender for his position and he is a productive across the board.
Paul Jones Paul Jones 6'4" | CG Combine Academy | 2024 State NC | 6’3” WG | CBG Select
Coming off a great junior season with Churchland, Jones recently announced he’s heading to Combine next season and he showed Saturday that if there’s one thing he can bring it’s tough shot making ability. The 6’3” lefty plays at a different cadence and is hard to guard with his ability to create space and knock down shots with little to no room, making him frustrating to guard because good defense isn’t always enough. He has deep range from beyond the arc, he’s an explosive finisher around the rim and he can get it done both on and off the ball.
