We will be spending the next week breaking down the many standouts we saw at the event. If you want to watch the replay, you can see it on the CBG Live Network.
Here’s a look at part two of the many 17U standouts from the event.
Kameron Tinsley Kameron Tinsley 6'5" | SF Cave Spring | 2024 State VA | 6’7” WF | GATA Academy
Tinsley has been one of the best prospects in the Roanoke area over the last few years, and he stepped up against some high level competition and showed he belongs at the CBG Tip-Off. The 6’7” wing has a basketball frame with long arms and good athleticism, he can score the ball from multiple levels and is excellent in the midrange area and he he showed good finishing ability in transition and when he got downhill. He played very well against a talented Team Loaded team and showed he’s a kid D1 schools should be checking out this summer.
Kolier Pruett Kolier Pruett 6'4" | SG Narrows | 2024 State VA | 6’4” WG | GATA Academy
The Narrows wing is a two sport star who shines on the football field too, and this weekend he showed he could be a division one player in basketball as well. The 6’4” wing simply knows how to play the game as he has good vision and makes the right play consistently, he can knock down shots from deep consistently and he rebounded and made plays defensively as well. He’s a plus athlete with a great skillset and feel and should have a big summer this year.
Cy Hardy Cy Hardy 5'11" | PG Nortide | 2025 State VA | 6’0” PG | GATA Academy ’25
Hardy is playing up on this GATA 17U team, and he showed he can play with the best of them as he continued his great play from the high school season. The 6’0” guard is a natural scorer who can knock down shots from deep, he’s shifty off the bounce and can touch the paint at will and he plays with good pace and scores the ball from all three levels. He’s growing into his body and getting more athletic by the day, and he’ll be one to keep an eye on in the Roanoke area.
Julian Rivera Julian Rivera 6'1" | PG Highland | 2025 State VA | 6’0” PG | VA Playmakers
Coming off a state championship with Highland School, Rivera is a hot name that should catch traction on the UA Rise Circuit with Playmakers if he plays the way he did this weekend. While he stands about 6’0” he plays much bigger as he’s strong and doesn’t mind getting physical with bigger players defensively, he’s a consummate floor general with great feel and he makes the right play consistently and he can knock down shots from deep and get to the rim offensively. He’s an all-around player whose impact shows up more than just the score sheet says.
Amarion Custis Amarion Custis 6'2" | SG Saint John Paul The Great | 2024 State VA | 6’3” PG | VA Playmakers
Custis is coming off of a solid junior season at John Paul the Great, and he was very impressive with this Playmakers squad that went 1-1 in the event. The 6’3” guard has good size and is quick off the bounce to touch the paint, he can knock down shots consistently from deep and in the midrange and he can make others better with his playmaking ability. He impressed with his ability to create for himself and others off the bounce and he showed good instincts and effort on the defensive end too.
Luka Matic Luka Matic 6'11" | C Charlottesville | 2024 State VA | 6’11” C | VA Playmakers
Matic is a new name that burst on the scene this Saturday, as the 6’11” big man from Charlottesville is an intriguing prospect we will definitely be keeping an eye on this summer. He’s an imposing force in the paint with his size and he does a good job challenging shots without fouling, he moves well both laterally and getting up and down the floor and he showed good touch both around the rim and out to 18 feet. It was our first time getting to see him but his mix of size and a budding skillset is impressive moving forward.
Jamari Garnett Jamari Garnett 6'3" | SG Life Christian Academy | 2024 State VA | 6’2” WG | CBG Select
Garnett is coming off a good season with LCA where he helped lead them to a state final appearance, and he showed out on Saturday for a CBG Select team that had some really tough matchups. At 6’2” he’s a strong wing who can get downhill and is an explosive finisher at the rim through contact, he shot the ball well from deep off the catch and he rebounded and did the dirty work as well. He’s another emerging name that is one of the more under the radar players in the Richmond area.
