In addition to being our No. 1 ranked 2024 prospect, Wright III (Baylor commit) was recently chosen as the 2022-23 Gatorade Pennsylvania POY. Just this past weekend he was a USA Basketball Junior National minicamp participant.
During his junior season at Neumann-Goretti the ultra-quick point guard averaged 22 points (2nd in PCL), 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2+ steals per game. Back in December he led Neuman-Goretti to the Iolani Prep Basketball Classic (HI) title. This winter Wright III also pushed the Saints to the PCL championship game and the PIAA 4A state title contest. Unfortunately, Wright III and NG came up short in both of those ‘chip games. After the 2022-23 season Wright III was a 1st Team All-PCL selection for the second consecutive year.
In 2021-22, Wright III led Neuman-Goretti to the PIAA 4A state tournament hardware. He was named MVP of that event as well as 1st Team All-State selection.
To say this transfer news is shocking is an understatement.
When reached for comment via text, legendary Neumann-Goretti Head Coach Carl Arrigale replied, “Rob was a true NG guard who did great things while he was here. I wish him nothing but continued success in the next step of his journey.”
It should be noted that Wright III is not the first high profile prospect to depart a southeastern Pennsylvania high school to spend his senior year at a prep school with a “national” basketball program. Most notably, Top 10 ranked players such as Jalen Duren (Roman Catholic), Justice Williams (Roman Catholic), and John Camden (Archbishop Carroll) have exited their local schools/programs to attend boarding schools outside the state for the final year of high school eligibility. Both Duren and Williams transferred to Montverde Academy as well.
