With how flexible this position is it takes talented players to do the things asked when playing this role. The 2024 small forward class may not have as many players as some other positions but there are still players in this position who deserve their praise and recognition. Here are my five underrated small forwards for the 2024 class.
Unangst is a tenacious rebounder that will never give up on a play. He’s a double-double threat every time he steps on the court. A great two-way player that has unlimited range from behind the arc and can finish at the rim with both hands strong. Unangst can put the ball on the floor whenever he wants to which just adds another element to his overall game. Also can’t forget about his play on the defensive end as he will do anything to get a stop blocking a shot or pickpocketing a ball handler.
Highlights
Price is an elite defender that will block any shot that is even near his way. He’s also an elite perimeter defender that makes opposing ball handlers struggle when attempting to dribble around him because of his ability to put a body on you and strip the ball away. Price is still raw on the offensive side but has a nice three-point shot with great quickness off the dribble to get to the rim. His best trait is never giving up on a play and will give everything he’s got every possession. Look for Price to have an excellent year next season with his two-way ability only getting better.
Yarus is just an overall complete player at the small forward position that every team would love to have. He crashes the glass at will and will dive after every loose ball. Yarus loves the catch-and-shoot three-ball and has a bag of moves in the post-game down low that he uses to score around the rim. A grind-it-out type of player on the defensive end that will block your shot or pick off passing lanes as well. I expect Yarus to have a monster season next year.
Wright-Myles has an extremely gifted athletic type of ability that allows him to do a lot of things most couldn’t even come close to. He uses this athletic ability to his advantage gliding to the rim at ease finishing tough layups or just throwing it down on someone. His inside game is unstoppable with so many different ways how he can score in the paint. Wright-Myles picks off passing lanes that look impossible to achieve. His fiercely competitive nature is how he grabs every rebound and dives after every loose ball never giving up on a play. Once he develops a consistent jump shot he will be a handful to guard.
Belcher is the type of player that loves to play downhill and get out in transition. His ability to finish through contact gives him a strong advantage over weaker defenders allowing him to get to the line more. He has a quick burst off the dribble which allows him to do those things around the rim. Belcher is also looking to come off of off-ball screens to hit the open three-point shot. He rebounds well at his size and is a pesty defender that will chase down your shot or pick off a passing lane like a free safety in football.
