This class looks to do big things next year in their senior years as the point guard position is very skilled heading into next season. With so much talent there will always be players who get overlooked which leads me to list my five underrated point guards for the 2024 class.
Moore from the start is just an overall defensive menace at the point guard position. His quick hands and fast lateral movement allow him to get multiple steals per game not allowing anyone to get by him. As far as his offensive game goes Moore still needs some work to do but I feel confident he will turn into an amazing two-way point guard next year as he already has a nice high-release shot and finishes well at the rim and through contact. Look for Moore to put up big numbers next season.
Cavanaugh is an excellent three-point shooter with unlimited range. He has a strong left-handed finish but should look to focus more on finishing and driving in the paint with his right as it can sometimes be too predictable for the defense when guarding him. Cavanaugh is great at setting up his teammates especially when he is doubled as he always finds the open man. On the defensive end, he is a pickpocket machine and ball handlers should be careful when trying to test him off the dribble.
Light is a very smart player that makes the correct passes and doesn’t try to do too much and takes what the defense gives him. He rebounds well for a point guard using his long frame which allows him to make quick outlet passes on the fastbreak. Light strips the ball from defenders if you try to take him off the dribble and reads the passing lanes as well as anyone. Also if you give Light the space from three he will almost certainly knock it down spreading the defense out for more opportunities for his team.
Williams has all the tools on the offensive end with almost no weakness in that aspect of his game. He’s a sharpshooter from downtown and has a sweet pull-up midrange shot that is just automatic whenever he releases the ball. Williams has a quick crossover to get to the rim opening up his bag of tricks with different moves to finish at the basket with either his hop-gather euro-step move or his spin move creating massive space against defenders. He makes the correct pass drawing in multiple defenders and will even lock you up on the defensive side of the ball.
Highlights
Lott is a multi-tool type of point guard that can do everything with not one skill overly dominating the other. He has great size standing at 6’1″. Lott is a knockdown shooter from deep and loves the corner three balls while also extending his range from the top of the key depending on what the defense throws at him. He will steal and dive after any loose ball that is even in the vicinity of him. Lott should look to be more aggressive when driving inside the paint as he can use his height and athleticism to finish over smaller or taller defenders.
