It was an opportunity to see Team Rampages 2024 Prospects, who’ll be playing on the 17 National Team. There were newcomers we hadn’t seen before. In this breakdown we have the 2024 Prospects. It’s early in the process, but there’s plenty to like about this group.
Larry Lewis Larry Lewis 6'7" | PF Vacaville | 2024 State CA-N 6’7 Forward, Vacaville
Lewis is a solid body prospect who’s made good progress since the last time we saw him. He’s been working to improve his body and overall skill set away from the basket. At 6’7 he’s expected to get buckets, rebounds, and defend inside. He showed good handles, and balance working along the perimeter with spin move drives into the paint, for jumpers, and finishes around the rim. He knocked down a couple of 3pt shots with his improved jump shot. He rebounded and pushed a couple of times.
Nick Cubley Nick Cubley 6'3" | SG San Marin | 2024 State CA-N 6’3 Guard, San Marin
He had good all around guard play at this event. He was aggressive looking to put points on the board in a variety of ways. Three level scorer is what comes to mind. He used his body and dribble for strong takes into to the paint for jumpers, and finishes through contact at the rim. He had good lift pulling up for 3ptrs, going after rebound, and blocks.
Jaylen Wheeler Jaylen Wheeler 6'2" | PG Fremont Oakland | 2024 State CA-N 6’4 PG, CG, Salesian Prep
He’s a good athlete. He’s more than capable of playing both guard positions. He’s a steady ball handler, a willing passer, shows some patience up top, and he sees the court in half-court and transition. He has the speed and a first step to repeatedly get into the paint for floaters, jumpers, and kick-out to shooters. His mid-range off the dribble is good. He’s a quality defender when locked in.
Koleton Fenton Koleton Fenton 6'5" | PF Miramonte | 2024 State CA-N 6’6 Forward, Miramonte
Fenton is adjusting to his new surroundings, and the physical play that comes with it. He’s a solid body with a good understanding of the game. He’s a capable scorer around the basket, and we see he’s looking to shoot the 3ptr when it’s open. He’s a good passer from the post area, and will work to get rebounds. He’ll have to be more aggressive defending in the paint.
Jordan Assefa Jordan Assefa 6'4" | SF Mountain House | 2024 State CA-N 6’5 W/F, Mountain House
He’s a good size prospect who’ll get better with more seasoning. He made the effort, and is willing to go after rebounds, and to defend his position. He’s a ball mover who’ll make the extra pass, a good court runner. He has range on his shot, he did put up a 3ptr or two that went in.
Newcomers:
Charles Roark 5’10 PG, Vacaville
The lefty had a good outing, he handles well up top, has good vision for passing, he used his handle to get into the paint, and a jump stop. He hit a couple of mid-range jumpers off the dribble around the free throw area. He sees the court to deliver long passes up in transition, and along the perimeter in half-court.
Joshua DeVore Joshua DeVore 6'7" | SF Novato | 2024 State CA-N 6’7 W/F, Novato
He’s a long wiry prospect who can play away from the basket. He has a good jab step and drive along the perimeter to kick it out or put a hard to block shot in the paint because of his length. He spots up well for catch corner 3’s. His length helped him get offensive rebounds, and put backs for points. He’ll have to get aggressive for the physical play that goes on inside guarding players his size.
Aaiden Burris Aaiden Burris 6'4" | SG St. Bernard | 2024 State CA-N 6’4 G/W, St. Bernard
He’s a competitive prospect. The righty struggled a bit early but found ways to contribute. At 6’4 he rebounds, he made good decisions handling the ball coming up court, his vision and passing were good. He’s a quality shooter from the 3pt line. He hit corner 3’s on the catch from both sides, he hit a couple off the dribble, and rhythm 3’s in transition. He has range and a good release.
Owen Bugas Owen Bugas 5'11" | CG Archie Williams | 2024 State CA-N 5’10 PG, Archie Williams
A good ball handling guard with good speed to push and pass it up in transition. He can play off ball. He has a good jab step to rock the defender, he hit short corner jumpers, used a spin move to get into the paint. He has range to knock down 3ptrs, he hit two. He showed an ability to stay in front of his man on defense, he got his hands on a few balls to disrupt.
