SubscribeThe Southwest Kickoff kicked off today in Edmond, Oklahoma. This event is hosting several great players and teams from across multiple states, as we get a glimpse of the future of high school basketball and beyond. The event is still going on, but here are the top performers that I witnessed this morning on Day 1 of the event.

Jaeron Banton
Jaeron Banton
Jaeron Banton provides a funny personality off of the court with a sense of humor, but once he is on the court, he is all business. He utilized a size advantage to grab one rebound after another. These rebounds led to multiple second chance points and assists. Several times, he would grab a rebound and hit an open teammate in the corner for a three or on a backdoor cut for an easy bucket. He did not force anything, but played within the flow of the game. He played good defense inside and came away with a block. Providing an inside presence on both ends of the court is what he did to help his team win.

Dontrae Simpson
Dontrae Simpson
Dontrae Simpson provided a scoring punch that helped propel his team to a win. Multiple times he drove and finished at the rim. Some of the finishes were through contact, resulting in him completing an and-one at one point. He also showed that he can shoot by knocking down a three.

Oluwafisayomi Falowo
Oluwafisayomi Falowo
Oluwafisayomi Falowo provides a good height advantage and athleticism, in which he utilized to help him dominate. He grabbed one rebound after another. He hustled every second he was on the court, on both ends, willing his team to victory. Not only was he a rebounding machine, he played great defense. He locked down the paint and also affected shots on the perimeter. One play he ran out and contested a shot so fundamentally sound that it caused the shooter to airball. He also came away with a couple of blocks inside. His game expanded beyond his defense and great rebounding, as he would shoot over the defender multiple times inside. He also turned offensive rebounds into second-chance points. It was a great game all-around for him in this one.

Chance Perez
Chance Perez
Chance Perez did a little bit of everything for his team. He grabbed a few rebounds, had a couple of assist, and came away with a steal. His game expanded beyond that, as he blocked a three point attempt and scored in transition. Multiple times, he grabbed an offensive rebound and turned it into something good for his team. His impact went beyond the stats, as he provided hustle plays and good on-ball defense.

Hudson Poe
Hudson Poe
Hudson Poe set the tone early on. He came out of the gate and hit back to back contested jumpers. He would score inside multiple times after this, but his game expanded beyond his shooting ability. He came away with a few rebounds and some great shot contest. He set the tone in a good win for his team.

Ben Kolar
Ben Kolar
Ben Kolar was dominant for his team. When an opportunity to grab a rebound went up, he was coming away with it. Several times he snagged an offensive rebound and put it back in. He utilized length and size to shoot over the defender, but his hustle is what made the biggest impact. He pushed the pace and came away with an assist in transition. His impact went beyond the scoring and rebounding, as he efficiently contested shots. It was a great performance by him .
