They have all the pieces to be a scary team and they deserve your attention. 17U White has great-length, next-level athletes, SNIPERS, playmakers, and hard workers. Maschino always gets the most out of his players. His teams play a fun brand of basketball, are unselfish, and they rise to the occasion. I expect this 17U White team to follow suit. Maschino is a player’s coach and I know that his guys will thrive in this system.
Sanford Sports Academy 17U is an official member of the Prep Hoops Circuit. That means, I will get to see this team play many games throughout the AAU season! This squad has a ton of talent and some of these guys will come into the season under the radar. That will soon change after they play at Prep Hoops Live!

Q&A with coach Tyler Maschino
PHD: Why are you excited about this team/roster?
Coach Maschino: “The overall depth and versatility of this group is exciting. We can play with multiple bigs on the floor or go small with 4 guards. Everyone brings something different and can make contributions to the overall success of this group.“
PHD: How often will your team practice/work out?
Coach Maschino: “Something new this year is practice weekends which is great for the guys to build chemistry. This group in particular has a lot of miles that will be put on for practices and tournament travel. However, I do not see that being a problem. These players are dedicated and willing to put in the work/time.“
PHD: What will a couple of your strengths be as a team?
Coach Maschino: “Overall Depth and toughness. We have 2 deep at every position and versatility of different styles of play. Being able to match up with any team will be a big strength of ours.“
PHD: What style of basketball will you play on the offensive end?
Coach Maschino: “With our length, quickness, and ability to shoot the ball, I believe we will play an up-tempo style of play that will play to those strengths. There is not a guy on this team that isn’t comfortable shooting the ball from the outside but we have very unselfish guys who will share the ball. It wouldn’t surprise me to have 5-7 guys score 10 ppg and be very balanced.“
PHD: What brand of defense do you foresee your team playing?
Coach Maschino: “This group will be playing an aggressive man-to-man defense while pressuring you for 94ft. The ability to switch a lot of action is going to frustrate teams and on top of that having to get inside over athletic 6’10 and 7ft guys is only going to help our wings/guards be aggressive.“
PHD: Is there an event/tournament you are most looking forward to?
Coach Maschino: “We as a group are most excited about being on the PH circuit and being able to showcase our team against some of the best in the Area/Country. Hosting a PH Tournament in Sioux Falls is going to be a pretty awesome thing to be a part of.“
