Point guards stand out under the bright lights. It's tough to win a title without a really good one.

Here are some point guards to keep an eye on at the state tournaments (it's no coincidence that they're all seniors!):

[player_tooltip player_id='1080161' first='Marcus' last='Zeigler Jr']., 6-foot-2 guard, 2023, Wichita Heights – 6A:

He led his team to a title a year ago. There's no reason to believe he can't do it again. Zeigler is the consummate floor general. His style and stats are impressive, but what really sets Zeigler apart is the way he commands the offense and directs the action. He's developed physically and can overpower opposing guards when he wants to get downhill. He can shoot. But he's best when he's getting the ball to his talented teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id='1378390' first='Grant' last='Stubblefield'], 6-foot-2 guard, 2023, Blue Valley Northwest – 6A:

Stubblefield won a ton of fans when he scored 60 points in last year's three-game tournament run that pitted him against Zeigler in the championship. He's a physical, rugged point man who can get to the goal and make plays in transition. He averaged 16 points and 4 assists this season, but watch for him to be ultra-productive with the season on the line.

(FYI there are a lot of good point guards at 6A state, but Zeigler and Stubblefield are the headliners because they're proven on the big stage.)

[player_tooltip player_id='1378394' first='Carson' last='Bennett'], 6-foot-2 guard, 2023, Hugoton – 4A:

Bennett might not always run at the point for the Eagles, but come crunch time, he's the guy they will want with the ball in his hands. Bennett is a veteran leader with state tournament experience. He has great vision and passing ability, and he can fill it up when needed. The senior averaged 16 points this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1146295' first='Hunter' last='Vaughn'], 5-foot-11 guard, 2023, Colby – 3A:

Vaughn is a great distributor who best fits the traditional point guard role, but has taken on a lot of the scoring for Colby. He is creative in the open court, quick on the bounce and gets the ball to the right place at the right time. The senior averaged 17 points and 4 assists, often sharing point guard duty with fellow senior [player_tooltip player_id='1146298' first='Ben' last='Busse'].

[player_tooltip player_id='1146283' first='Landon' last='Kaufman'], 5-foot-11 guard, 2023, Moundridge – 2A:

10 assists per game? Can that be right? That's what the record book says. Kaufman is lucky to have some talented dudes around him who can put the ball in the hoop. Kaufman is excellent at getting the ball to them. He pushes the tempo and handles pressure masterfully, with vision and a grasp of angles and spacing. Kaufman is experienced and ready for this opportunity.

[player_tooltip player_id='1212167' first='Jordy' last='Dolloff'], 5-foot-10 guard, 2023, Wichita Classical – 1A Div. I:

Prep Hoops has kept this guy on the radar throughout his career because he's been a highly regarded point man at the small school level throughout his career. He has his last shot at a state title with the Saints and will be on display for the public this week. As a senior, he averaged 12 points, 6 assists and 3 steals.
