Oldham-Ramona/Rutland had a new head coach this season with Logan DeRungs who took over a few days before the season started. ORR is a class B team that competes in Region 2. The Raiders dealt with a ton of adversity this year. However, they grew as a team, saw improvements, had some fun along the way, won an overtime game, and picked up a W in the postseason. They may not have had a deep run in the playoffs, but the Raiders made memories that will last a lifetime. Take a look below for stats and a Q&A session. Coach DeRungs has some great things to say and you will want to check it out. Good luck to Oldham-Ramona/Rutland with the rest of the school year and have a great offseason!

Team Comments from coach Logan DeRungs
“The guys did a better job throughout the year at transition defense. Early on we had a tough time getting back. I think we could have pushed the tempo a little more against some teams, but sometimes that is what teams wanted. They wanted to speed us up.”
Q&A with coach DeRungs
PHD: How would you sum up the season for your squad?
Coach DeRungs: “I have had the pleasure of coaching some really great kids, and these guys lived up to that. This season was filled with adversity for these kids, and they responded every day with a positive outlook and hard work. That will do them more in life than winning basketball games ever can. I am very proud to have been their coach and I think it is remarkable the way they handled these tough situations. I will miss these seniors; they were so fun to be around. For us to only win 2 games all year, but still be able to laugh and have fun really says something about the bond we had.“
PHD: What were some of the highlights that stick out?
Coach DeRungs: “Winning in the regions is always fun (beat Arlington). ORR had not won a regional game in 2 years. Our OT win at Sioux Falls Lutheran was incredible as this was one of the first few games we played without Kadyn. Some other highlights include all the support from opposing teams for our player. They would do fundraisers and wear t-shirts, among other things. We live in a pretty special state.”
PHD: How did your team overcome adversity?
Coach DeRungs: “I accepted the job on the Saturday prior to the first practice (2 days after Thanksgiving). I did not have an opportunity to spend the off-season with the kids, but seeing as I was the head football coach and a teacher in the district, I knew them all. It was a transition, as all coaching changes are, but we really molded and grew together throughout the year.“
“One of our main players fell ill halfway through the season. It was a very scary time for him, his family, our community, and our team. We did not know what tomorrow would bring, or if there would for sure be one. I think his strength to fight is something to marvel at and our team’s support and togetherness helped him in ways only he knows. He came back and played in regions, and we were so happy to have him back. It truly taught us the value of life and how basketball is only a game.”
PHD: Who were some of your hardest workers?
Coach DeRungs: “Shayne DeVaney and Riley Schneider Riley Schneider 6'3" | SG Glen Ullin-Hebron | 2025 State ND were great leaders for our team. They worked hard and echoed the sentiments of the coaching staff to the team.“
PHD: Who are a couple of role players that stood out to you?
Coach DeRungs: “ Cooper Merager Cooper Merager 6'1" | PF Oldham-Ramona/Rutland | 2026 State SD and Boyd Pooler played huge minutes off the bench this year. They were able to get nearly seven quarters each night, and that will really help the varsity squad in years to come. We noticed substantial growth from these two players throughout our season.”
PHD: “ Caden Hojer Caden Hojer 6'5" | C Oldham-Ramona/Rutland | 2024 State SD and Brayden Hanson Brayden Hanson 6'0" | SF Oldham-Ramona/Rutland | 2025 State SD both had solid junior and sophomore campaigns. They will be our two returning starters next year. Hojer averaged a double-double on the year and will be relied upon heavily next season. Brayden was the best wing on our team. He really found a way to slash to the bucket and proved to be a nice passer as well as finishing.“
