There’re many prospects to mention, even from just a two-game slate. St. Thomas More has a very deep roster and brings a ton of talent off the bench. The roster consists of many solid two-way guards and 6’5″ and 6’6″ prospects with upside. Plus, a Freshman guard to keep your eyes on. In class B, Faith and Northwestern also have an abundance of talent, with guards that can score and lengthy athletic wings that can run.
Faith 75 — Northwestern 64
St. Thomas More 52 — McLaughin 34
Jackson Schauer Jackson Schauer 6'1" | CG Faith | 2024 State SD – 6’1” G 2024 – Faith – Schauer absolutely light it up from three in the 1st half and single-handedly won Faith the game in the 1st half of play. Finished the 1st half with 23 points, with Faith putting up 47 in the half. What stood out about Schauer, other than his three-point making ability, was how few of times he had to dribble the ball. He only took the necessary dribbles to relieve pressure to pass or to drive straight at the hoop to get to the rim. He can play the point, but he seems more comfortable off the ball and releasing his three when he is catching a pass. Don’t get me wrong, he can create a three on his own, but he’s especially dangerous off the catch.
Wyatt Gylten Wyatt Gylten 6'0" | CG St. Thomas More | 2026 State SD – 5’11” G 2026 – St. Thomas More – Gylten got some playing time in this game, entering the game with 6 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. And he looks to be an up-and-comer for STM and in the state. One to watch for sure. Nailed a corner three in the 4th quarter off a quick and smooth release. I’ve only seen him sparingly, but he looks to be a good one. Has some good length for a 5’11” guard, and I don’t see the current 5’11” listing hurting his recruitment — he looks to be a little taller than that. Great court vision and an elite passer. Looked very comfortable and confident on the court for a Freshman guard. Very high on this young guard with poise, skill, and potential. The future is bright at STM, with this young polished guard.
Caden Selby Caden Selby 6'7" | SF Faith | 2024 State SD – 6’7” G/Wing 2024 – Faith – Caden is a prospect to get excited about if you’re a college coach. Extreme length at the wing, with the ability to put the ball on the floor and shoot the three. A quick and high release from three, that he can pull quickly off a catch and shoot. Did this in transition as well. Loves to shoot the three and stretch the floor. A very thin frame that could easily put on some size and mass. Plays a little too high, offensively.
Jordan Uhlir Jordan Uhlir 6'6" | PF White River | 2024 State SD – 6’5″ F 2024 – St. Thomas More – Great speed for his 6’5″ height, getting up and down the court extremely quickly. Exceptionally long arms and his length is clear to see immediately you turn on the tape. Slender frame but is really good mover on the court. Quick lateral feet, staying in front of an attacking ball-handler with quickness and length. The lefty can finish at the hoop at a high rate and gets the ball overtop the defense to finish. Runs the floor with the intention to receive a pass and score.
Will Green Will Green 6'1" | PG St. Thomas More | 2023 State SD – 6’1″ PG 2023 – St. Thomas More – Green really impressed me from the point guard spot. Green is a solid prospect with some nice traits and abilities. Good quickness and superb ball-handling. Controls pace and runs the offense. A creative and accurate passer that will make the easy pass as well as some more difficult ones. Handles with both hands well, having complete control and dictates things himself. Can finish and score on his own as well as being a distributor. A consistent on-target three-ball repertoire to his game as well. I thought Green was the most impactful prospect in the STM/McLaughlin game.
Quintin Fischbach Quintin Fischbach 6'5" | SF Northwestern | 2024 State SD – 6’5” G/Wing 2023 – Northwestern – Quintin makes Northwestern “go”. Fischbach is hard to miss because he’s all over the court on both ends. Plays extremely hard and has size. He runs the court hard and will contest at the hoop. In the zone, he’s highly disruptive with his size, length, and jumping ability. The offense had to throw lob-passes over-top to move the ball. A good jumper that can get off the floor quickly and is a quick double-jumper. Overall, a good athlete that can move. Runs, jumps, and brings a high motor.
Chase Neiber Chase Neiber 6'3" | SF Northwestern | 2023 State SD – 6’3″ F/C 2023 – Northwestern – A big and strong build and moves well. Highly versatile on the court, as he’s comfortable playing everywhere on both ends. Pulled a trailing three in the 1st quarter that was missed but on-target. Hit a rhythm three early in the 2nd quarter. Crashes the boards hard and uses his strong frame.

McLaughlin | 2023
State
SD
– 6’3” G/Wing 2023 – McLaughlin – Sims is a talented prospect that has good size, length, and bounce. He’s ranked 33rd in the South Dakota 2023 class. A skilled player that doesn’t force much and will play within an offense and get his teammates involved in the offense. Showed impressive hang-time. Skies high up for rebounds.
Jess Harper Jess Harper 6'0" | SG Faith | 2023 State SD – 6’0” SG 2023 – Faith – Harper brought a lot of energy and effort to the Faith vs Northwestern matchup. He was an important player on both ends in Faith winning this game. Hit a turnaround fade in the 1st half. A good athlete that can get off the ground and rebound the ball. Hit an important three in the 2nd quarter, off of a catch and shoot. Needs to be respected by his opponents as a scorer, as well. Scores off-balance in the midrange area, as well as attacking the hoop and shooting the three.

SD
– 6’6″ F 2024 – St. Thomas More – Runs like a gazelle at 6’6″. In the third quarter, he sprinted the floor quickly to contest/block a layup at the hoop. Very impressive closing speed. The lefty wing/PF can handle the ball some and he put up a couple threes that were slightly off the mark.

St. Thomas More | 2024

SD
– 6’2″ G/SF 2024 – St. Thomas More – Not the top-rated prospect in the matchup with McLaughin, but he had the best game scoring the ball. The lefty off-guard can shoot the three and used his body well to get on the block and put-up baby hooks. Played much bigger than he is and used his power and frame well. Led all scorers with 23 points, simply by making shots and finishing his opportunities. Did damage inside and outside from beyond the arc. Nothing flashy, just efficient scoring and taking advantage of mismatches.

Faith | 2023
State
SD
– 6’2″ G 2023 – Faith – Palmer is a long point guard prospect. Values the basketball and likes to slow the action and offense down. Was able to see and pass over the zone quite easily. Anticipates well on D and his length greatly benefits a zone defense. A right hand dominant offensive player.
Raymin Yellow Earrings Raymin Yellow Earrings 6'0" | CG McLaughlin | 2024 State SD – 6’0 G 2024 – McLaughin – Raymin is long for six-foot and is skilled. Has a skilled and flashy handle on the ball. Will perform a combination of ball-handling moves and has an effective and long crossover.
Layton Spratte – 6’3” F/C 2023 – St. Thomas More – Spratte is the starting interior player for STM. A hard-nosed prospect with a constant motor. Will get physical and put his body on the line. He moves and is skilled enough to play away from the hoop.
Matthew Larson – 6’0” G 2023 – St. Thomas More – Larson is built-up physically with a muscular and strong frame — an athletic feel to him still. A high-level defender that uses agility and his lateral mobility. Matched-up with Sims and gave him troubles.
Nathan Melius – 5’11” PG 2024 – Northwestern – Melius is the starting point guard for Northwestern. A true point guard that handles the ball, plays with quickness, and gets after it on D. A true point guard but he still likes to attack, get in the lane, and will pull the three if given space.
Easton Ogle – 5’11” G 2023 – St. Thomas More – A well-developed muscular frame and moves quickly with power. He uses his frame and quickness to be a very good defender for the Cavaliers.
Lincoln Woodring – 6’1” G 2024 – Northwestern – Woodring showed the ability to put the ball and pull-up and hit a midrange jumper. A guard that can make all the necessary passes. Popped an open three to start off the 2nd half scoring for Northwestern. Hit another corner three shortly after to score the first six points of the 2nd half.
Reilly Schmitt – 6’2″ G 2023 – Northwestern – Reilly is a good player off the bench for Northwestern. Good size and adequate skills. Similar to Fischbach, in that he brings a motor and can run and jump well with good size. He’s a big and athletic 6’2”. Can play multiple positions, including handling the point guard spot to spell Nathan Melius.
