They kicked off the Spring season with their signature event the Kingz and Queenz of the City tournament which features teams from throughout the west region. Some of the greatest players of all time were known for their ability to play out on the wing. In this article, we take a look at some of the top wings from the event.
Rhys Robinson
Rhys Robinson
Robinson was impressive right from the start of the event. I like the burst he played with, as he was good in 1 v 1 situations. Robinson showed that he is skilled enough to make quick COD’s without losing the ball, while bursting by defenders. A good athlete, he did a good job filling lanes, and finishing the break.
Austin Turner
Austin Turner
I didn’t get an exact height on Turner, however he has good size. A raw prospect that was most productive inside the paint, Turner did flash some ball skills, allowing him the ability to stetch his game out on the floor.
Ty Brown
Ty Brown
Brown passes the eye test. A long lean prospect, that stands a little over 6’3, the seventh grader showed skills enough to play out on the perimeter. He has a better than average handle for a player his size, with potential prospect written all over him.
Shawn Patel
Shawn Patel
Patel was one of the more efficient scorers I saw during the week. He did a terrific job of using his size to get into the paint and finish over defenders.
Khaleal Brown
Khaleal Brown
Brown played with a ton of energy and effort this weekend. He’s was one of the better grab and go guys I saw, snagging rebounds and starting the break. Was at his best when attacking downhill, and finishing transition layups at the rim.
Leyroy Wood
Leyroy Wood
I didn’t get an opportunity to get a height on wood. He did a lot of his damage in the interior. A big physical rebounder Wood was one of the better glass cleaning wings I saw on the weekend.
Zen London
Zen London
London helped power the Skyriders to the crown. A competitive guard, London was a downhill straight line terror determined to get to the rack. His ability to score in transition was a huge part of helping the class of 2028 Skyrider team take home the 8th grade Gold crown.
Willie Cason Jr
Willie Cason Jr
Cason was more of a traditional wing, showing the ability to score without having plays run for him. He was terrific in transition proving to be one of the more advanced finishers. Cason showed a nice array of Euro’s and 1-2 steps en route to finishing transition attacks at the rim.
Taj Deloney
Taj Deloney
Deloney was very similar to Cason, giving AZ Storm Black two effective wing runners. The forward did a good job running the lanes, seemingly always out in transition. He was one of the better transition scorers I saw on the weekend.
