Hayden Schroeder 2027 (M14 Hoops): This young man has all the measurables that jump off the page at you. At 6’2 Hayden has the versatility to handle the ball, make great reads for himself as well as teammates, and knock down open shots. M14 Hoops plays a great brand of basketball that makes it easy to see how Hayden can step in and make an immediate impact on a high school program.
Uriah Davis 2027 (Meanstreets): I first saw Uriah in 7th grade playing up on an 8th grade team. My assessment at that time was that he was very poised and could really shoot the basketball. He was a smaller guard, and I felt that if he grew he was going to be a problem. Well man has that occurred! Now standing at 5’10 Uriah not only continues to shoot the ball well, but has evolved into one of the best floor generals in Illinois. He arguably is the best passer of the basketball in his class. He has started to get notoriety as of late, and I would have to believe that this is just the tip of ice burg. Uriah is on the rise!
Tobyus Banks 2027 (Team Rose): Tobyus or “Su” as he is often referred to in the Chicagoland area has been on a tear! Tobyus is a physically built guard who creates nightmares for opposing defenders. Once Banks starts getting downhill there are few players in his class who can deter him from getting where he is trying to go. In prior months their was a perception that he was a very capable scorer but needed development as a facilitator. In recent months, he has made great strides in that department. Coach Marcus Speller has the team clicking on all cylinders, and Tobyus Banks has been a big part of that.
Jeremiah Weatherford 2028 (Meanstreets): With a lot of attention going to Darrius Hawkins at Prairie Hills Middle School (rightfully so), Jeremiah at times can go overlooked and underappreciated. This kid projects to be a flat out stud. He has great length, can slash to the rim with the best of them, and plays both ends of the court which is rare in the 7th grade. I’ve seen this kid in many big games be the difference maker in crucial moments of the game. I’ve also seen him take on the challenges of guarding the other teams best players. You better buy stock early in this young man! As his grade school Coach Boyd would say “What you waitin on!” Jeremiah is special.
Amari Winters 2027 (Team Rose):
Leader supreme! Often times kids are overlooked for various reasons, but this kid has been getting the job done this season. Fresh off of a State Championship at Coolidge Middle School, Amari is a throwback guard that can play for me any day! His grit and toughness is second to none. Many young guards have to grow into being vocal leaders on the court, and Amari innately has that intrinsically in his basketball DNA. People throw around the label “winner” loosely at times, but that term as absolutely applicable to Amari Winters. He has all of the intangibles and is more concerned about the success of the group as opposed to being consumed with himself.
Dream Horton 2028: This young kid is an up and coming name in Illinois! The younger cousin of Curie High School standout Carlos Harris, Dream Horton is looking to follow in the family tradition of being a top guard in the state of Illinois. Dream is a physical guard that is adept at creating off the dribble. To be a young guard he does an excellent job of finishing in traffic. He also has shown and ability to turn his defensive instincts into offensive opportunities. This kids name can be mentioned up there with the top players in his class!
