Ethan took home the crown, but there’s a certain prospect for Gregory that deserves a closer look and examination for our audience. That prospect is upside college prospect, Daniel Mitchell. Mitchell is currently the #5 ranked prospect in the South Dakota 2024 class.

Here’s a quick look at Mitchell’s overall profile, as we try and provide as much coverage and content in such an important part of the season.
Physical Profile
Daniel Mitchell – 6’7-6’8″ / 2024 / Gregory
The first thing I think about when seeing him play is realizing how much better he’ll be in his college years than his current ability/physical development. Needs to put on strength to really become something special. He can use that strength to use his size and length to its fullest potential. The 6’7″-6”8 2024 is slender and has length for days.
Offense
Offensively, he’s more skilled and finesse than powerful. Plays well at the wing spot and that’s likely where he translates. Started out the game with the first four points with a pump-fake three into a two-point step-back jumper and followed that up with a steal and easy transition dunk. He’ll try and seal and get positioning to receive a touch on the block, but he wasn’t able to hold that positioning in this matchup. Ethan was clearly trying to get physical with him and brought more than one body at times. He was receiving multiple down-screens to free him up for threes. Knocked one down early in the game. Shows continuous movement off the ball to try and get open or gain an offensive advantage when receiving a pass. Can hit leaning fadeaway shots with a defensive contest. A solid handle on the ball and can handle the ball in the open court in transition.
Defense
More active defensively than most. Plays with energy to jump for steals and deflections, using his rare length and ability to cover space with it. Will fly out to shooters and contest the ball at its highest release point. Not overly quick, but will cover ground and space with his length, so he doesn’t need elite short-area quickness. Runs back on defense quickly and covers ground quickly in a full-court setting. Moves well in all directions and can turn his hips fluidly.
