64 Sectionals became 16 Regionals which are now down to 8 Semi-States. Obviously, that last number is a little different than in years past because the IHSAA flipped the two-game Regional and single game Semi-State format this season. Also, a “re-draw” was held on Sunday as an added wrinkle prior to the Semi-State round. After beginning with approximately 100 teams per class we are now down to the final eight and that will be cut to just four by Saturday evening. Then, two teams from each class will survive and advance to the IHSAA State Finals at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. As we have prior to each round of the state tournament, our staff at Prep Hoops Indiana is here to give you all of the information that you need ahead of Saturday's games. Let's dive on in and take a look at the Class 3A South Semi-State being hosted by Seymour City High School.

Game 1 Analysis: Going into the 3A State Tournament, this is the game that you would have expected when we got to this point, and that held true. Both Scottsburg and North Daviess were so tough this year each were two of the best teams all season long. Both of these teams easily took care of business during Sectionals and both had little scares getting here with Scottsburg only getting by Greensburg 48-46 and North Daviess only beating Gibson Southern 48-44. I would say when you look at the player by player matchups, its pretty even for the most part. Obviously it comes down to [player_tooltip player_id='1578484' first='Wyatt' last='Zellers'] and [player_tooltip player_id='935727' first='Jaylen' last='Mullen'] as they are the two top guys on each roster. The way this game looks on paper, it should be a back-and-forth game that comes down to the final buzzer. Always nice when you have the two best 3A teams in the same part of the state meet up in the semi-state round.

Game 2 Analysis: This is another game that has the makings to be a fun on paper. Beech Gove just continues to advance and prove the people that thought they would regress after winning state last season. Other than a close game vs Cardinal Ritter in the Sectional Championship, the 2023 backcourt duo of [player_tooltip player_id='1530699' first='Jeremiah' last='Alexander'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1556397' first='Jeremiah' last='Tate'] have led the Hornets to double-digit wins in 2 of their 3 postseason games. Guerin Catholic, on the other hand, has had a much tougher route getting here with the teams they played but still has won all three postseason games by double-figurers. The Golden Eagles might be one of the more deeper teams remaining in 3A with so much experienced players like [player_tooltip player_id='1162765' first='Kamea' last='Chandler'], [player_tooltip player_id='868267' first='Lucas' last='Parker'], [player_tooltip player_id='1275817' first='Robert' last='Sorensen'], and their star forward [player_tooltip player_id='1547883' first='Dylan' last='Murans']. This game will def be a clash of styles in a way but for the most part be a fast-paced one. There will be a lot of scoring in this one that is for sure. It is a toss up as to who will come out of this one.

Prediction: North Daviess over Scottsburg, Guerin Catholic over Beech Grove, North Daviess over Guerin Catholic
