The high academic forward battled with 6-foot-9 Terrell Wright Terrell Wright 6’9″ | C Columbia | 2023 State GA and came away with 12 points, 21 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block. Hudson helped clinch victory for securing two huge offensive rebounds late in the game. Khalon is an elite rebounder. His nose for the ball is as good as anyone’s in the state. He rebounds out of area, playing larger than his size. The mid-range assassin showed off his athleticism with a putback slam to lift Westside to a 20-9 first quarter lead. The Patriots went on to win 55-52, Hudson’s effort on the glass the difference.
Highlights
When Wright was involved in plays, the Region 5 Player of the Year was an impact maker. Terrell totaled 11 points, 15 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 6 blocks. He didn’t receive many paint touches, but was able to score on three putbacks. One of the few times he did get the ball on the block, Terrell scored on a deep seal with a hook shot. Wright is a major stock riser. He’s long, bouncy and extremely mobile. His best basketball is ahead of him. Terrell can be a defensive anchor at the next level.
Devin went to work against one of the state’s better frontcourts. McClain finished with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 1 block, serving as Providence Christian’s tallest player at roughly 6-foot-4. Devin showcased his offensive versatility, netting three three-pointers, scoring on a putback, a drive and sinking two free throws. Devin’s offensive game has grown since last year, becoming a more well-rounded perimeter player that can now stretch the defense consistently, all while still providing major effort around the rim.
Chandler Dunn
Chandler Dunn
The unsung hero in Providence Christian’s 59-49 win over Model was Chandler Dunn. He was tangled up with Jeremias Heard Jeremias Heard 6’9″ | C Model | 2024 State GA all game, giving up close to six inches and plenty of pounds. Chandler’s work fronting the post and denying any entry feeds helped shut down Model, especially in the second half as Heard was held to one point while also battling foul trouble. Dunn’s line doesn’t jump out at you, but his impact goes much deeper than the surface of the box score. Chandler finished with 5 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 3 blocks.
The big fella was a load to deal with whenever he got paint touches. Heard is a mountain of a man and a physical presence that carves out space with his drop steps. He scored on a pair of hook shots. Jeremias fouled out late in the game sacrificing himself to stop the clock. I’ve seen many times players refuse to foul due to foul trouble and cost their team precious seconds, but Jeremias, knowing the magnitude of the moment, had no issue doing the right thing to help his team. Heard finished with 8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 5 blocks.
Heard has become an interesting prospect with his added three-point range. He drilled two quick threes in the first quarter against Providence Christian before attacking off the dribble. Heard’s activity and athleticism have always hurt opponents, but his growth on the perimeter has really elevated his ceiling becoming more of a full-time wing. Jakenes finished his career with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block.
