SubscribeWith the 2022-23 high school season approaching Regional and State Championship games, the Prep Hoops SoCal staff put a fresh update on the class of 2023 rankings. The list went from 130 players to 175 and there was plenty of movement among players on the board. In this piece we break down some of the best unsigned seniors remaining on the board.
Dennis Evans Dennis Evans 7'1" | C Hillcrest | 2023 State #28 Nation CA-S , Hillcrest
The 7-foot-1 center was committed to Minnesota before recently decommitting and reopening his recruitment. Evans will most certainly sign with another high major program and has a chance to be an immediate impact guy on that level because of his defensive abilities. Evans is an elite shot blocker and rim protector whose offensive game has plenty of good attributes to work with and continue building on.

Dunlap is another senior whose recruitment reopened after Mike Brey announced he was retiring. The 6-foot-7 swingman is an elite mid-range and three-point shooter who has shown that he can knock down jumpers both off the catch and off the bounce. Dunlap has plenty of options on the table, and, because of his skill-set, can fit in just about any system. The senior, who helped to lead his Wolverines’ team into the CIF State Open Division championship game, is a low usage yet highly-productive player who doesn’t need to dominate the ball to be effective.
Bronny James Bronny James 6'2" | PG Sierra Canyon | 2023 State #43 Nation CA-S , Sierra Canyon
James’ recruitment is interesting seeing that he’s the son of LeBron James and the scouting world seems to be split about what level of prospect he is. Some think he’s a no-brainer high major guy with the potential to be a one-and-done. That same contingent of scouts also believe he’s a top 10 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Us? We’re more on the conservative side of the Bronny James Bronny James 6'2" | PG Sierra Canyon | 2023 State #43 Nation CA-S debate. The 6-foot-3 combo guard is undoubtedly a Division 1-level prospect due to his basketball IQ, passing ability, size and athleticism for his position and improved perimeter shooting touch.

Gardner is one of the best available big men left on the board and when the day is done will be another SoCal guy to sign at the Division 1 level. The 7-foot center is a multi-skilled offensive player whose ability to hit open catch and shoot 3-pointers, operate with his back to the basket inside and score to either hand makes him a tough cover at the high school level. Gardner also has good feel as a passer for a big man.

Rolison’s dynamic playmaking ability is what will make him a coveted unsigned senior. The 6-footer is an elite shot-maker off the dribble and high level transition playmaker and scorer with the ball in his hands. Rolison is a point guard in the sense that he handles the ball a lot and responsible for making the majority of decisions throughout games but is definitely more of a scoring-minded guy who can put points on the board in a hurry.
