These teams travel throughout the country to get their players national in person exposure. One of the premier legendary programs Oak Hill academy traveled up I95 to play Long Island Lutheran another national power and the best team in New York State, before a sellout crowd on Long Island. Oak Hill had a nice run to close out the 1st quarter trailing 18-17. But LUHI high flying fast paced experience and athleticism was too much to sustain. LUHI has everything in their arsenal multi talented extremely athletic ballers who are long and defend as hard against the ball as they do with the ball. LUHI won the game 87-52. Here were the standouts from both squads.
The UCONN commit was outstanding. An athletic versatile wing. He is a three level scorer. Explosive in the open floor showed off his dunking ability on the break. Can finish in traffic. Nice looking jumper was able to knock down threes consistently.
Calling all D1 coaches get in now on VJ if you haven’t already. The 2024 player is that good. When he came to LUHI the Bahamian born player was seen as an extremely athletic player who was already a very good defender. Still a terrific on the ball defender who at 6”5 with his athleticism blocks shots. Some like on this night in spectacular fashion. But we have seen this player grow into an all around stud. A three level scorer. He nailed 4 threes in the first half and finished with 7 threes. Great lift and smooth coming out of the hand.
Jayden has been in my reports for three years now. Following in the footsteps of previous LUHI high level D1 players Jayden will be there next season. He is lightning fast with the ball. Changes speed and direction in a flash. He is a terrific crafty scorer. Can contort his body to protect the ball and finish. Outstanding range. Uses his speed to stay in front defending the ball. Understands the importance of forcing the ball handler to change direction. The thing I am truly impressed with and written this up many times is his passing ability. Not only to thread the needle in tight spots off a half court set, but the ability to throw the touchdown pass with finesse. A truely talented basketball player.
An athletic freak. Another player on this LUHI club that blocks shots out of nowhere. Long player extremely fast rim runner. Great skill set. Outstanding leaping ability. A player who won’t be denied in scoring inside. A rebounding hawk. Hunts for the ball, combine that skill and his leaping ability it makes for alot of extra possessions or fast break opportunities.
Let me start by telling you this young man from New Zealand has only been in the states a short time. Yes he has played against men basically in his home country but he has adapted and just about perfected the US brand of basketball. On this night he showed good ball handling and toughness. The ability to get into the lane. But he was downright nasty nailing three pointers from beyond the arc a lot of times with a hand in his face.
Extremely high skill set. Fearless tough point guard. A great work ethic. Is blossoming into a true point guard. Understands the importance of getting the team into their spots and running the offense. Has the ability to get into the lane and score as well. Very explosive. Moves well without the ball. Will be a scoring true point guard at the next level.
The extremely long lanky player makes his mark in a game with putbacks which are usually thunderous dunks above the rim. Gets good position to catch lobs or put himself in range to throw it down. Played very hard in the second half with his team down which is something, that coaches at the next level look at. Anybody can play well when things are good but how do you respond when it’s just not your teams night.
