Hayes has taken over as the primary scoring option for the Irish as a senior and has had some big-time performances against out of state powerhouses. I’ve been really impressed with the scoring jump that he’s taken, looking more confident in creating for himself and getting to his spots. We saw this at the end of his junior season when STVM took on Oak Hill without a few senior starters and Hayes scored over 30 points in that game, that was a sign of things to come for him this winter. Kent State is getting a tough wing who could be a nice addition to a squad that’s been near the top of the MAC recently.
Taft has continued their dominant play even after the transfer of Rayvon Griffith to Az Compass Prep and the rise of Eian Elmer Eian Elmer 6’6″ | SF Taft | 2023 State OH ‘s play has been a big reason why. Elmer is evolving as a shooter but is most known for his impressive athleticism and vertical explosiveness. Elmer is averaging 16 points and 11 rebounds a game for the Senators as they look to repeat as state champions. Guys like Elmer will help Miami (OH) get out of the bottom of the MAC after a couple rough seasons in Oxford.
The first uncommitted prospect featured in this article, Head is a unique guard prospect with a lot of athleticism and ability to score the basketball. I was there in person for his most impressive outing of the season, a 40+ point outburst against fellow state title contender Emmanuel Christian. Head has grown as a shot-maker and point guard throughout this season, trying to lead the Falcons back to the state final four. I expect low major programs to continue to look at Head, he got offers from SEMO and Binghamton this spring/summer, but no new schools have offered since.
Another prospect right on the edge of Division I offers is Carson Browne Carson Browne 6’8″ | C Elder | 2023 State OH out of Elder. A versatile big who has a lot of skill with his ball-handling, shooting and decision making. Elder plays a slow tempo which limits the counting numbers that Browne can put up during the high school season, but the impact on the game is obvious when you watch him play. It’ll be interesting to see if Browne ends up getting a Division I offer, or if he’ll be the most sought-after Division II big in the region.
Aljancic has had a career to remember for Louisville, becoming the all-time leading scorer for the Leps. Aljancic is a bucket getter from the wing position with the shooting ability to get hot from the outside and the athleticism to throw down highlight-reel dunks as well. I expect Aljancic to be an early contributor at the college level with the potential to be an all-conference guy as an upperclassman.
