Archie is having a great season with Spire and brings a different dynamic than most Ohio guards who grew up here. A big time athlete, Archie can create some insane highlights with the ball in his hands. Shifty when attacking in isolation, the lefty can pull-up or get to the basket with a hesitation or crossover move. A big time athlete, Archie has the ability to put defenders on a poster with his vertical athleticism. A bit turnover prone, that is probably the biggest area of his game that will looked to be cleaned up early in his college career. I’m a big fan of Archie’s long-term upside and think he could play early at James Madison.
Vorst is the only OHSAA product to appear in this article, one of the biggest prospects in the state is headed to Indiana State for college. Vorst has battled injuries throughout his prep career but is having a great senior season. Very skilled in the post, Vorst can score with his back to the basket and can pass out of double teams. A bit of a hidden gem because of the injuries and part of the state he’s from, Vorst is one of the most talented prospects in Ohio’s 2023 class and if he can stay healthy will likely be a major contributor at the mid major level.
The only available prospect in this article, Yahlaho blew up with Western Reserve Academy this fall. Yalaho has numerous Division I offers with his most recent coming from Colorado State, San Diego and Richmond. Yalaho can step outside and shoot it at a high level while also having the skill to put it on the floor and make a smart pass. It will be interesting to see where Yalaho eventually decides to commit to as he’s the only prospect in our top 20 to remain uncommitted.
Autry was highly pursued by mid and high major programs before eventually deciding to commit to George Washington University. I’ve seen Autry play a variety of roles as with Western Reserve he’s currently running point guard due to injuries and doing a good job taking care of the basketball. With City Rocks, Autry was more a 3 and D prospect who played within a system running off screens and shooting a higher volume of spot-up looks.
Ogunfuye is a big time athlete who is very productive around the rim. Able to score around the basket as a cutter, from the dunker spot or on put backs, Ogunfuye is a guy you need to monitor around the paint. A little raw in his development but with his motor and current production, this could be a steal for Mount St Mary’s getting Ogunfuye and I wouldn’t be stunned if he transferred up to a higher level if he makes an early impact in college.
