Our Headliners
Hayden Tibbits Hayden Tibbits 5'11" | PG Wayzata | 2023 State MN of Wayzata yet again made a big statement. Facing another top ten team in East Ridge, Tibbits scored 31 points and led the Trojans to a 22 point win after a great start that put his team up double figures early. We will discuss Tibbits more today in Race for Mr Basketball but he was the best player in Minnesota in January.
Our prediction was…. somewhat right. I had Wayzata by nine, they won by 22. I should have thought back to what Lakeville North did to East Ridge but I didn’t think of it.
The Eastview vs Farmington one point game that was won by Eastview 76-75.
Jonathan Mekonnen Jonathan Mekonnen 6'8" | PF Eastview | 2024 State #201 Nation MN . The fast rising junior scored a game high 29 points and led Eastview to an important one point league win. Mekonnen continues to play at a level that was even more expected this year as he is a junior playing with a team of veteran seniors in his first year of varsity. Part of me wonders how much of his potential has even been realized. Or how much do we even realize he has!
Our prediction was….. Correct. Eastview won by one score instead of two.
In the RTR vs Lakeview game Aiden Wichmann Aiden Wichmann 6'2" | PG RTR | 2023 State MN scored 24 points and was a major difference in the game. In the first contest in December Aiden was a factor but not as much as a playmaker. Aiden was a huge factor last night. He scored 24, Drew Werkmann scored 15 and RTR limited Nathan Fenske Nathan Fenske 6'2" | SG Lakeview | 2023 State MN to 17 points.
Our prediction was….. correct although we thought RTR would win by a few more scores.
Buffalo had a statement win against Eden Prairie but that statement lost some luster with the Buffalo loss to Edina and with the EP losing streak. So… Buffalo picked up another statement win! They beat Hopkins on the road 60-57. We came into the game talking Jayden Moore Jayden Moore 6'0" | PG Hopkins | 2026 State MN and Nate Dahl Nate Dahl 6'0" | PG Buffalo | 2023 State MN but neither player had their usual impact combining for 21 points, which is under the average of both players. Last night it was junior Grady Guida Grady Guida 6'1" | PG Buffalo | 2024 State MN that stepped up big with 16.
Our prediction was…. half correct. We said “three point” win only for the wrong team. Lol, so yeah, wrong prediction.
Esko beat Hermantown so our prediction there was wrong. There are no reports anywhere on social media or anyplace to let you know what individuals played well.
Others
Nice win for Edina beating Eden Prairie and sophomore Daniel Molhoek Daniel Molhoek 6'8" | C Edina | 2025 State MN scored 24 points.
Huge performance from Blake Femrite Blake Femrite 6'2" | PG Spectrum | 2024 State MN scoring 36 points with 10 boards and seven assists! The junior guard hit 12 of 21 shots, scored five threes, and then hit a late shot to send the game into overtime followed by nine of his team’s 14 points in overtime! Huge statement game from Femrite!
Will Underwood Will Underwood 6'0" | PG Mahtomedi | 2023 State MN scored 29 for Mahtomedi who beat Tartan 84-51 last night. A good 29 and then an early seat. Underwood is having an all state level season.
Asher Zubich Asher Zubich 6'1" | PG Mountain Iron-Buhl | 2023 State MN led his team to a win while scoring 103 points and he only took 11 shots! He scored 27 points with 10 assists and six steals for the win.
