The all-time leading rebounder in Brecksville history, Garito is a great paint presence with his size and motor. One of the more filled out post players in the state, Garito has the physicality to play right away at the college level. Garito mostly scores in the paint and a diver from dribble drive plays through the Bees guards and finishes at the basket, he’s also got over 1,000 career points for Brecksville. I believe Garito is one of the best available bigs in Ohio and scholarship programs should take a look.
Russell is committed to play baseball at the next level but every time I watch him, I walk away more and more of a fan of his basketball talents. A good athlete, Russell has a filled-out frame and shoots a really pretty ball from the outside. One of the most productive players in central Ohio this season as well. Bishop Ready is currently unbeaten and their senior trio have seen their stocks rise all season long, winning will go a long way towards helping players stock and Bishop Ready has done nothing but win this year.
When I first watched Rivers I thought he was a developmental big project who had a long way to go, fast-forward about nine months since that time and Rivers has come a long way in terms of consistent production on both ends of the court. Rivers is more confident with the ball in his hands and is grabbing close to double digit rebounds almost every night. I think Rivers is a very intriguing long term bet for a JUCO, Prep or Division III program because with the right development system, the sky is the limit.
Irwin is another prospect off the board but he’s been having a huge senior season and gets a deserved bump up in the rankings. Recently scored 26 points on Lutheran East, Irwin also had 42 points in a huge conference win over Riverside in January as well. Irwin has become one of the toughest matchups for teams across northeast Ohio with his size, skill and relentless motor. Irwin will join a stacked John Carroll squad next season that currently sits in the top 10 of the country.
Lots of the players featured in this article have done a lot of winning this year and Maple Heights after a slow start has done nothing but win in 2023. The Mustangs are playing excellent basketball right now and Moore is a big reason for that success. Moore is a tough match-up with his ball skills plus size and is a good athlete in transition. Maple Heights has had a different guy step up in most of their big wins, but Moore’s defense has been a constant for their team.
