Kyle Eaton, 5’8 G – Champlain Valley Union High School Class of 2024
It was only a matter of seconds before CVU’s spark plug made an impact in this one. He checked in about two minutes into the game, and just a few minutes later he had cut up the BFA defense for three treys and a dish or two for easy buckets. Ultimately, Kyle’s incredible agility, tight handle, and quick trigger was an utter handful for BFA defenders. Then on the defensive end, Eaton bothered ballhandlers and got into passing lanes. Kyle is making his case for top guard in 2024.
Tucker Tharpe, 6’6 F – Champlain Valley Union High School Class of 2024
Tharpe’s interior presence was formidable for a full three quarters before resting the whole fourth. Tucker prevented anyone from getting comfortable in the paint with his solid contests against slashers and straight up defense against bigs in the post. He reeled in a game high 12 rebounds and added seven points off of savvy post work and second chance buckets. Tucker’s steadiness and rock solid inside presence had BFA on the ropes all game.
Logan Vaughan, 6’4 F – Champlain Valley Union High School Class of 2023
Logan is the other half of CVU’s interior towers, and he put in a ton of work in this one. Vaughan secured the paint and cleaned the glass with consistent box outs, preventing BFA from getting few if any second chance opportunities. Then on the offensive end he unleashed a number of fundamental post moves which culminated in crisp hook shots. Plus, he collected multiple offensive boards for and-1 buckets. Logan’s work ethic and fundamentals are a pleasure to watch.
Alex Provost, 5’11 G – Champlain Valley Union High School Class of 2023
CVU’s floor general had everyone organized and galvanized. Provost’s smart facilitation and decision making had CVU operating like a well-oiled machine as he sought to get everyone involved. Once everyone was rolling, he took his turn and got into the lane with hesitations and crossovers, finishing strongly at the cup. Alex’s defense was locked in as he held guards to the perimeter and prevented paint touches. Provost is that composed, high IQ PG that every team needs.
Sam Sweeney, 6’2 G – Champlain Valley Union High School Class of 2023
I love seeing a guy who plays within the flow of the game. Sam’s ball movement, spacing, and decision making were in full effect as he moved instinctively into defensive gaps, read coverage, and made the basketball play. He fed the post with crisp passes, cut wisely off ball, and knocked down open shots. Additionally, his defensive footwork was on point. Sweeney stayed in front of ballhandlers and rotated into help position intuitively. Sam is smart and steady.
Will Hughes, 5’11 G – BFA St. Albans Class of 2024
Hughes came out of the gates ready to play as he made a number of quick buckets off of pure hustle. He beat the press via the pass, then ran the floor in a dead sprint for multiple strong finishes at the cup. Plus, he got into the second layer off of nice hesitations and finished wisely with impressive interior footwork. Hughes’ defensive effort was 100% there all game as he pressed in both the full court and half court. Will brought the energy regardless of the scoreboard.
Seth Richards, 6’7 F – BFA St. Albans Class of 2023
When Seth asserts himself offensively, he’s a problem. Richards displayed a few savvy post moves from both the high and low post positions, and his length allowed him to finish at the rim from quite a distance. Moreover, he made a number of nice reads, hitting cutters for easy twos as they slipped behind defenders. Defensively he was solid but left a few boards on the glass which turned into second chance points. All in all, Seth ran the floor hard, made sound offensive reads, and had a lot to handle between CVU’s bigs.
